Assistant Coach Watch

MDA is going to need some help. Hopefully he brings in a defensive-minded assistant like Bzdelik.

Does Chris Finch stay with the team? Are there any guys who have worked with D'Antoni before who would be of interest?

Despite his failures as a defensive coach MDA is a brilliant offensive minded coach so Finch wont be retained as he was the offensive coach.If we can nab the Toronto assistant who is close to Harden and is their defensive coach then great but if not a guy like Bzdelik with a ton of experience on the defensive end would do just fine.

Whomever it is he must be a strong personality who can sell his ideas to a team that was allergic to playing defense.

Was Lionel Hollins rumored to be in the chase or was his name attached to the Silas rumor?

Hollins was associated with Silas and the Rockets were considering them as a package. I think D'Antoni will have a say about who he wants as assistant coaches. Usually the head coach brings in his own assistants. Ideally, he will have to bring a defensive coach.

Would be a little weird if Bzdelik came to be an assistant since he and MDA were both at one point the head coach of Denver.

Kurt Rambis was an assistant one season in LA. He is probably looking for work? Unless Hornacek wants to keep him?

Jay Humphries coached with MDA in Phoenix for one season. He's currently an assistant with Brooklyn.

Mike Woodson was his assistant for one season and took over as head coach when D'Antoni was fired by Knicks. Is now with Clippers.

Is Elson Turner looking for work? He was the defensive coach under Adelman and did a great job.

He and Bzdelik both were assistants for Dave Joerger this year at Memphis but with new coach David Fizdale coming in, they could be on the move.

Coincidentally, JB Bickerstaff is interviewing to be an assistant under Fizdale so maybe it will be a swap where we get Turner or Bzdelik. Former lottery pick Shawn Respert was also an assistant to Joerger this year and a former Director of Player Programs for 3 years with the Rockets.

I can see Turner going to Sacramento with DJ. He has roots in Sac town from his Adelman days so that is that.

there is lot of detail wording in contract
legal get paid big bucks for writing them
not everything is copy and paste
