But whenever you watch him play he disappears most of the time and this is against high school opponents. Its usually hard to tell just how good a big man is in high school cause they usually dominate all the time cause they are so physically superior compared to the average high school big. But with Thon he doesnt even dominate those games most of the time. And if he is in a big game against another big time high school big its almost a guarantee that he will get abused. I cant believe this is now at page 16. This is a guy that good teams take at the end of the 1st round or in the 2nd cause they can just sit them on the bench for a few years to see if he ever becomes a player, most of the time they dont and you never hear from them again

But his name is really cool?

He's not a lottery pick, because he hasn't played against good-enough competition, but still... check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RCqF9RlAD4
He has potential beyond his skills...

Without trying to make a comparison, how do you think that Garnett has managed to stay in the game so long?
His vision on defense, and understanding of the game will help Maker have a long career.

Come on, I will give him credit that he cares about defense and communication , and that in interviews his head is screwed on pretty strait (not thinking he's the next Durant.) but at this point there's no real indication he's going to be a special defender, good? maybe, exceptional? don't see it. to be exceptional or even great you need both tools and instincts, I don't see the later part even against younger competition.

I will say that his extreme upside is Serge Ibaka, which is really great, but certainly not Kevin freaking Garnett. and Ibaka was playing against pros for multiple years already at the same age and doing a respectable job .

Objectively Ibaka was a better prospect, and he went 24th. (granted, in a pretty deep draft.)

See? people only look and his highlights and from there are projecting his upside. Remember Skal Labissiere? in highlights he looked like a beast, now people wouldn't take him top 10, many not even in the lottery. And Skal has clearly more upside than Maker, because he have good hands unlike Maker

Beyond talent, it is the scarcity of big men who has legitimate range that helps his stock. Almost every team is looking for a big who can score. Pair that with Thon Maker's talent and potential, and it can only get better for him. Biggest issue would be adding weight, IMO. But a good majority of draftees every year also has the same issue. Jonathan Bender looks like a closer comparison, with his ability to shoot.

Mark my words...Thon Maker will be in the mix for the top pick in the draft with Simmons. Ultimately he probably goes 2nd to the Lakers or 3rd to the Celtics.

He might only average 15pts 8rebs 2blks in his rookie year but he will make massive strides the following years.

Haha gotchas

But seriously, he has been listed as the number 1 high schooler and top college prospect for 2016 for a few years so scouts have obviously seen him play a fair bit and must like him a fair bit to have put him at no.1

I say he gets drafted at around no.14 and wish him all the best

Skai will be a lottery pick because upside will trump his poor freshman year in a weakish draft.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I predict he goes 38th. But i agree he could go anywhere from 15th to undrafted. This is the weakest draft. There aren't many nba ready guys and the upside guys don't have much upside.

The fact that buddy hield is a top 5 projected pick tells you everything you need to know about nba ready. The fact that Skal is a lottery pick tells you everything you need to know about upside potential

What are you saying about Hield? Do you not believe he is NBA ready? Or do you think he is not worthy of a top 5 pick based on talent?

What does NBA-ready even mean? Does it mean that a player doesn't have a translatable skill? Skal can shoot.

Hield is the classic low upside guy.

He can definitely make a rotation immediately almost anywhere. Probably start for several teams.

But he isn't a guy you expect to ever really break out. He's not an ingram or antekoumpo type for sure. Hes more frank kaminsky. Except not nearly as good

I think Porzingus has made many GM's pause and think about these Skinny 7'2 kids with 3pt range

I thought his recruiting stock dropped as his HS career progressed?

I dont think his recruiting dropped as much as his nba stock.... and i dont think it was as his HS career progressed but as it moved to canada, he "fell off the map"

Why do people NOT believe in him? Is it his character? Experience? BBIQ? Motor? Other?

Because at 18, I can't put a final judgement on his body or his skills.
