This is some quality analysis. I know practically nothing about this draft class, so I'm sure i'll be taking a look at this again as the draft nears. GPII seems really intriguing.

Ford has the Pistons taking Baldwin in his mock - works for me. 6'4" with 6'11" wingspan is a huge plus.

I don't think he'll be there at 18 when it is all said and done. Karl Towns for one, thinks he is going to be a star, compared him to Westbrook.

Re: One-stop shop on PGs in this draft
Take Baldwin in the first, assuming we're not in love with a big there. If not, might have a shot at Payton in the second.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: One-stop shop on PGs in this draft
Bowers has said that the draft will not change the Pistons' free agency plans, so he must have thoughts on how to resolve the backup PG and PF positions with our $13M cap space. That being said, it does look like if we draft the right guy, we could have a backup PG in this draft. Certainly several of these guys would be more interesting than Blake.

Grizzlies pick right before us in the first - Conley is likely walking, Rio Chalmers is coming back from Achilles tear, they'll surely draft a PG.

I find that hard to believe. For one thing, you draft a PG or PF and it makes players at either position less likely to want to some here, even if we try and tell them that the draftee is years away from playing time. A vet PG would see their role here as a half season back-up and then 3rd stringer rest of the length of their contract barring injury. PF is a little different in that you could try and sign a starting PF with our draftee rookie PF 3rd on the depth chart.

Keep in mind we're talking about the 18th pick, not the 8th. Guys drafted in that range usually sit and develop for a couple years regardless of position. Backups aren't going to sign long-term regardless so the Pistons could sign and draft a guy at the same position and be just fine in terms of asset allocation.

I like Baldwin, but not in the first.

To be honest I like Jackson and Felder better than Baldwin. Wade just looks a step slow and supposedly athletic but cant finish. Jackson looks like he would thrive in a pnr system so would Felder with his quickness.

Baldwin will absolutely be a first rounder especially in this draft...just saying.
Would love to get him at 18, but have a feeling he might already be off the board by then.

Re: One-stop shop on PGs in this draft
Anyone who plays for Izzo can handle SVG. I highly doubt there would be issues with responding to coaching criticisms and wouldnt mind him at 18.
in terms of this draft and our needs, sometimes its good to have a pick in that range where there 4 or 5 PGs worthy of that pick but a couple teams take away some options and narrows down your choices a bit to 1 or 2.
A lot of times a team picking @10 picks the wrong guy and that team in the 18-23 range pick the same position and end up getting the right player based off less room for error. Hopefully the decision will be easier between Ulis, Baldwin, Demetrious because one or both will be drafted ahead of Detroit.
Similar to #8 last year, it will be REALLY DIFFICULT to get this pick wrong and I love it.
Draft Express has
Sabonis
Baldwin
Jackson
Ulis
Going in the 17-20 range. Pistons will go wrong with none of these players.

For sure I'm pretty satisfied with our options at 18. There's also some other players that are decent that could be there as well.

This thread needs a bump. With all eyes being on the big man position lately, something is telling me to take another good long look at the PG prospects in this draft.

You're probably right. Wade Baldwin would be pretty damn exciting. Demetrius Jackson would be nice. Dejounte Murray or Tyler Ulis (especially if Felder is available later), not so much.

Re: One-stop shop on PGs in this draft
I'm going to get around to posting the rest of the positions on the draft board.
In addition to updating the aggregate mock draft rating, I was going to add two almost certainly undrafted guys to this list: Marvelle Harris and Alex Hamilton. Hopefully I can get them all out this week.

Josh Adams from Wyoming is so damn explosive. He's a interesting prospect and if anyone gets a minute should check him out. He's probably gonna go undrafted and could be a interesting player to pick up in the offseason.

Re: One-stop shop on PGs in this draft
I keep getting on and off the bandwagon to draft Thin Maker & Baldwin.
They both seem to have the boom or bust type of players.
Happy with Jackson & Sabonis although after watching Tristan Thompson switch on defense getting a guy who can do that is a must imo.
Leaning towards Maker because of the home run potential but depends on who is still there. Maybe we can sit back and let other teams do the work for us like when we got Monroe, Dre & Johnson.
