I'm totally underwhelmed by Skal but I'd still rather take a chance developing him into something than a few these other so called "NBA ready" players being mentioned around our pick.

It's funny because all the so called media sources seem convinced we're taking someone like Sabonis or Poeltl but between this presser n the story of Masai spending time talking with Cal, it would seem like Skal is the guy we're most interested in.

Until Skal can drastically improve his ballhandling n creativity, I want what you guys are smoking.

Again I prefer him over Sabonis n Poeltl but right now he's just a player with really good physical attributes that can block shots n take spot up jumpers. For us to have a "dynasty" on our hands or for it to be "over for the NBA", Skal would need to take truly MASSIVE steps forward (like damn near becoming like KAT), right now I'd just be thrilled if he could become a poor man's Turner.

Can anyone remember a player who performed as poorly as Skal in college and turned into a stud in the NBA? I can't.

That's my reservation with Skal, but dude definitely is toolsy.

Again, I'd trade up or hope that one of the top 8 falls as my first option. But, if not, I guess Skal wouldn't be so bad.

Myles Turner

Myles Turner had a WS/48 of over .200 as a freshman. That at least gave you some hope on his potential to be impactful. Skal's WS/48 was at .142 for his freshman year.

Plenty of freshman who are now NBA stars did just as poorly. They just chose to come back for more college where as Skal is going to try and develop as a pro.

This is a good example RE: Skal. Drummond's WS/48 was at .126 with a TS% of 51%. Horrible numbers.

I wouldn't call Myles Turner a stud yet, but he played pretty well in college.

10 and 8 on a pretty good FG%. Hardly great, but not as **** as Skal.

Yeah 10 and 6 with a whopping 2.6 blocks per game and good percentages in just over 20 mins. While actually hitting threes in game action.

Turner was a very underrated prospect. I was hyping him up in last year's drsft thread but then he went ahead of our range.

Drummond is also a good example because he was projected to go #1 or #2 before the college season started, just like Skal (I think he was #2 on NBADraft.net at the beginning of the season), then fell because of poor play in college. He had similar questions being asked about him about his effort and IQ, despite all the physical tools and skills being there to be a great NBA player. Ended up falling way too far and basically every team from 2-8 regretted not picking him except Portland.

We need to take Skal.

Well yeah I didn't go "Full Hinkie" like you just did lol but it was just a quick reference of a PF/C that underperformed in college as he was also pinned to go top 5 prior to his college season hence his draft position but he certainly had the talent.

Like I mentioned in my previous post where you said "it's a wrap for the NBA", I'd just be thrilled if he was a poorman's Turner who cram may say is not a stud yet but I am most certainly saying he is. Turner is going to be an absolute beast given his fluidity and size, he's going to be just a notch under KAT and AD. I'd even be happy if Skal was just a notch under Turner.

Coach Cal talked about Skal today:

http://www.kentucky.com/sports/college/kentucky-sports/uk-basketball-men/article85025787.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

When you consider how much time he lost in HS it's no wonder he had a rough freshmen year. It also gives me hope that with more reps and some patience he could make some dramatic leaps. Smart kid. Hard worker. Just needs that light bulb to go off where he gets everything he can be and where he should be within the game plan.

True. At #9, if none of the elite 8 drop, I'm happy w/ Skal if Masai's scouted him and thinks he's the right guy.

The last guy I remember who had crappy college numbers who went in the top-5 was Dion Waiters. He's shown an NBA-level skillset, but continues to be plagued by terrible BBIQ (head-down chucker) which was part of the knock on him in college.
Interviewer: Championship #2?
Ujiri: Hey...We're gonna get it. I don't know when it'll be, but we're gonna get it. Just like I said we'll get the first one and I said I didn't know when we'd get it...But we will. Guarantee you we will.
