Free Agency Rumble: Orlando, Detroit and the Lakers are all among the teams that intend to make a run at Atlanta big man Al Horford.

Detroit would be the best fit if he doesn't want to play center anymore. Drummond at Center and Horford at P.F would not be a traditional SVG front court but it would be a good one.

I don't know what the timing is for him with his club, but it makes sense for Saric to see what happens at the Draft. If it makes sense to come now, come now. If it doesn't, wait another year and then come when he's not bound by the Rookie Scale anymore.

Derek had it somewhere posted (but between his tweets and his writings I'm not sure where), but iirc he has till July 27th or something. I didn't check so if thats a Sunday just wiggle it a day or two and I *think* I am remembering right.

I actually have the opposite angle. Given Saric sounds like he wants out of Europe and into the NBA badly, it makes sense for him to do it before the draft. Because it will encourage the team to make transaction(s) that will maximize his playing time.

And when Philly sells #26 for 2.6m in cash and 2 future 2nds, they can pretend that it paid for Saric's buyout because 650k of it did?

The thing that stands out to me is this: no one seems to know Hayward. They say he's unhappy in SLC, but he *chose* to be on the North Side of Indianapolis at Butler for college. He grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana. SLC is a good sized big city with a lot to do. It's certainly not a step down from his choices all his life. Why, all of a sudden, would he have an issue with SLC?

I put hoopscritic at the Chris Sheridan/Brian Windhorst level.
Guys that say so much stuff that all of it should be ignored (although Windhorst can get a story from LEbron's camp once in a while).


Heh. Just got bored and used google. Here was my rumor hierarchy back almost 2 years ago:

A little puzzled by the declarations there have been no rumors about (player X). Is there an official rumor list somewhere, or is there a criteria for a scenario to be considered a real rumor?

Here would be my rumor hierarchy:
Lvl 0:
For some of the players, there have been pretty much 0 rumors of any kind anywhere (yet they are listed here).

Lvl 1:
Speculation if any has just come from local guys that don't have any league sources and say stuff. I could think of a source for Philly rumors that I would put as basically baseless without anything else corroborating
Broussard and no where else.

Lvl 2:
Speculation has come from decent but not great beat reporters, or national guys that usually miss but sometimes hit.

Lvl 3:
Speculation has come from very good beat reporters or the decent respected national guys

Lvl 4:
Woj (and Stein)


Obviously lvl 0 should be dismissed. And Lvl 1 probably should be. Now we can debate who is credible enough to be lvl 2 instead of lvl 1, so it often makes sense to list what the original rumor was.

In terms of that sort of hierarchy, hoopscritic is squarely lvl 1 and bottom tier imo. Also, I would add Lowe into tier 4 at this point. Guy like Chad Ford I have as a 2 in contrast, just to show the distinction.

Marc Stein is reporting that Okafor/Noel is part of a package for the 3 pick. I value both the same as potential Celtics. Noel fits better, and would be more enticing as a teammate in an attempt to land Horford. But he will require up to 20% of next year's cap. Being a local kid I have less concern on him bolting than I do most "expirings" Okafor certainly has the higher upside IMO.

If Saric is part of the package coming back, what value the celtics assign to him will be heavily weighed if he is coming this year or next. If he is coming this year, I would put his value at around 10 and Noel's around 7. (please bear in mind only one year of control) So I think the 3 + 16 is a close approximation of balance. Or if Philly think the value for their pieces is greater add Hunter to the 16th. If the Celts need value, they can trade one of the 31/35 for one of the 24/26 picks. a liitle more 31 to 26, a lot more 35-24.

According to the rumors, Philly is trying to get the trade done before the draft. Assuming that's the case, the Cs have to send out about $3 million in salaries. Unless they are willing to give up some of their flexibility, that means Hunter and Young at a minimum. Only thing Celtics can afford to take back is a future draft pick or The unsigned Saric.

Makes a deal very awkward, something like Dunn, Hunter, and Young for Noel and Saric. If Philly is willing to wait, there will be much more flexibility during the draft.

Forget going all the way up to Stein, I have Locke as a better source for an (unbiased) take on Hayward than hoopscritic. Which isn't saying his take is going to be unbiased, just that its still likelier closer to the truth.

(I still would trade Hayward. Sorry Utah fans)

Yeah, Locke knows his stuff and has been a good judge of character for Jazz players, and although his field is not breaking news, I'd trust him fully here.

I pretty much subscribe Hatford's rumor hierarchy btw, you only need to update it with Shams in the Woj/Stein level, acknowledge a couple of beat writers or three that often break stuff before Woj, and that's pretty much it.

As long as both parties agree to teh deal prior to the draft, that should be enough for Boston unless I'm missing something obvious here. So they could still finalize the deal in July without having to add additional outgoing money for Boston.

But I'd think using Jerebko's ungtd contract would be more likely than dealing young players unless Philly is providing additional value to account for them. Of Course Philly could make better use of some of Boston' young guards than Boston could so Young going to Philly isn't the worst idea.

Locke and Genessey are locked in on the Jazz. If it didn't come from them or Woj or Stein, I don't buy it.
