True true and I bet they do and I have a feeling it's Sabonis for some reason. Those are my preferences based on how I think these guys could turn out to be.

27 is tricky I just threw in a bunch of intriguing guys that could go between 20-40 type of range.

I wouldn't be mad at the pick, but I hope we don't pick Poeltl. I like his mobility for a 7fter. However he has a low center of gravity, that does not bode well for a low post scorer, which he primarily is. Look what happened when he went up against a player with a lower center of gravity in Sabonis, got shut down. I've never seen him ever taken a jumper, and his face up skills aren't that good. The way I see it, if you're drafting him you're drafting him for his athleticism for a big man, because unless his develops a ton of lower bulk overnight, his post skills won't translate.

Just to defend Poetl's honour a bit. Apparently Poetl rolled his ankle early in the game when he went up against Sabonis. There are a couple clips where Poetl just stands still as Sabonis works him in the post, so I think this is legit. Second, Poetl outplayed and shut down Jahlil Okafor as a freshman, which is more meaningful to me then having a bad game against Sabonis. If we can pick and choose one game to represent a player, I'll gladly take the Duke game instead.

Also, someone from the previous thread mentioned the Glen Davis - LaMarcus Aldridge game from 2006 (while both players were still in college):

Player 1 was 2-14 (4 points), had 10 rebounds, 5 blocks and 2 assists.
Player 2 was 11-14 (26 points), had 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist.

Admittingly I didn't watch that game between Poeltl and Okafor, but I watched a break down of it on draftexpress just now. Utah sent a ton of double teams Okafor's way, but Okafor was throwing him around like a rag doll when they were both fighting for post position. And on the other side of the ball, Okafor displayed some lethargic defense where he put up no resistance and let Poeltl get to where he wanted to, but the few plays Okafor tried, Poeltl couldn't budge him at all. That just validated my concerns of what I had of Poeltl.

OAKLEY_2 wrote:He is by all accounts a capable defender and able to switch quickly on guards. The fact that he brings post defence, rebounding and a low post game with some developing shooting means he is more well rounded than JV coming out of college. The only thing that hinders this pick is the league moving away from traditional 5's.

Thanks to his mobility I think he's entirely capable of being a 5 in today's league. My worry lies in how his game won't translate due to his lack of lower body strength as a post player. Now I don't think this is a big concern as far as physical profile goes, because having a high center of gravity bodes well for face up players, but I've rarely seen him put the ball on the floor and I've never seen him take a jumpshot.

If he's hiding a face up game that's as good as his low post scoring game and a jumpshot the way Sabonis seemingly is, he'd be my pick at 9 easily. Though I've heard nothing of the sort.

The way I see it we're essentially drafting a project.

Expect the unexpected tonight.

Maybe the Raptors brass have had access to Thon Maker and feel his upside is significant and gamble big.

Maybe they plan to draft and stash 18 year old Furkan Korkaz.

Maybe they trade up, down, or out.

Maybe somebody ranked 20th most of the year is 9th best in their minds.

In a draft like this anything can happen.

I don't agree with parts of your analysis. The only reason those double teams were effective is because Poetl holds up and positions himself properly. Okafor also grabbed zero offensive rebounds, something he excelled at while with Duke, while Poetl grabbed five. For Poetl to do what he did against a guy who weighs 35+ lbs more than him is impressive. The strength, which Poetl didn't show, is going to come once he starts receiving NBA calibre training.

For a while, you really scared me off of Skal, perhaps I was projecting. I'm starting to come around that there may be upside there, I'm not sure it comes out in a 5 on 5 setting, and I'm not sure how much of a competitor he is, but at least he can shoot it. It's not to the point that I'm on the bandwagon, but I'm don't have the same level of trepidation.

You can check the video out here. Where you see Poeltl holding his own, I see him battling his ass off and still not winning the position game.

My brothers, the time is at hand.

The event that has brought us all together. The day that for one bright and shining moment shattered all debate of tanking. That allowed all to bask in the glory of our greatest season without thought of future consequence.
A day of reckoning. A day of hope. A day when the shrowd of Primo Pasta will forever be lifted and we may hold our heads high! Stand up. Rise up and let the world know that

WE ARE THANK NATION AND OUR TIME IS NOW!

I've changed my mind a few times but I'm going with Deyonta Davis if nobody falls.

The #9 draft pick was brought to you by Andrea Bargnani, get your pet spayed or neutered.

I'm just going to say I disagree and leave it at that.

To hit on some earlier points:

- At 7'1, Poetl is going to be taller then most players he goes up against and the same held true in college. He didn't consistently lose battles because other players had a lower center of gravity.
- He needs to work on his strength, once he's get a little bigger and stronger, he'll be fine against the majority of players.
-He absolutely needs to improve his shooting but his superior free throw percentage moving from freshman to sophomore year indicates an ability to get better in that regard.
- This is a flawed group of prospects at #9. Compared to the potential issues with players like Skal or Sabonis, Poetl looks pretty damn good.

The Raptors probably take a power forward anyway, which means Poetl is out of the picture.

The true fruits of our labor..... The deal which gave us the 9th pick, will truly be realized today. Let us bask in the glory knowing that today was given to us in exchange for a can of primo pasta and sauce.

Ah, blessed be the day of the draft. The true wizardry of Il Mago occurred not on the court but in dreams of General Managers. In the hearts of greedy men, a 7-footer who can hit the 3 is too much to resist. Let us rejoice and be glad.

Best Case scenario for me tonight would be a Bender/Valentine draft.

Im expecting Sabonis/Trade 27 for pick next year. Then next year we would have the clips pick, our pick, Knicks 2nd round pick, and whoever we give this pick to. Consolidate those picks next year in a better draft.
why was hakeem called "the dream"??"

Because it rhymes with 'Olajuwon'.

We also have the Bucks first round pick thanks to the Vasquez trade.

I hope we take Poeltl he is going to be one of the best players in this draft and with him and JV we could dominate on the inside but for some reason even though Masai always says he will take the BPA I think he may take a PF and blow it . I think he should take a PF at 27 . Imagine having the luxury of if the refs try to screw us by giving JV a couple quick fouls and we come back with Poeltl lol . We would be ref proof .
