Look, I'll admit that Beal has not lived up to expectations, whether it's due to injury or whatever. If he didn't just turn 23 and was say 27, this would be a Juwan Howard-type of contract. And it still might be because if Beal doesn't perform, he might get booed. Though I doubt there will be enough Wiz fans in the stands to even care.

Beal or no Beal, the problem with this off-season is that we are getting no buzz. So do you go back and try one-year deals to open up cap room for 2017? F-ck no. You do the best you can with what is out there and try not sign too many one-year deals, but don't sign mediocre guys to five-year deals. I am intrigued with Seth Curry, but we are going to have to overpay him. And he could start for the Kings next season.

The Wiz didn't outbid themselves just as Toronto didn't outbid themselves. Everyone is going to get the max, so might as well not BS around and think guys like Beal and Derozan are going to accept a discount.

With the amount of money being thrown around we really need to get on some of these trades and get some old Era salaries
There are teams that need to get rid of contracts, we need to be on the phone; alert.
This isn't a good free agency to get half your team.

Beal was an RFA though. We could have waited to at least see if he got a max offer from someone else first.

But I've come to accept that it's not an issue because he would have gotten a max offer. **** Nic Batum and Chandler Parsons getting max deals, Mozgov and Noah getting 16 and 17 million a year, Bazemore asking for 20 million, and Jordan Clarkson getting 12 per. Someone absolutely would have offered Beal the max.

It was a good faith move so that Beal would know he's going to get paid and not sign a QO from someone else so we can save 7 million to sign another role player. We're going to **** need it too apparently. If we spend 20 million on Ryan Anderson we're going to have like 10 million left to fill out at least three key rotation spots (back up PG and C in particular) and five more spots on the bench.

This is a ruinously player-friendly market. We need to get the hell out of it and make some trades for guys who are already under contract.

The only issue I have w/Beal's contract is that I'm shocked his agent didn't push for an opt out. That's the rage these days, sign 5 years, opt out after 3.

We need to only be focused on midtier and lower guys

Bazemore, Anderson etc shouldn't be considered
We have oubre who has more potential than bazemore and Teletovic should be cheaper than ryno

Perhaps. But he definitely would have, in this market. And if Ted/EG had shown any reluctance to offer Beal the full max, he'd have every incentive to quickly sign another offer sheet -- which would hurt our ability to use the rest of our cap room.

Now, in theory, Ted/EG could agree to a hand shake agreement w/ Beal, but then renege on the agreement after signing other FAs (and after all of the other teams had exhausted their cap room). But that kind of tactic would burn all sorts of bridges around the league. I don't think saving a few $ would make it worth it. And, given the high # of teams with max cap room, that strategy isn't even likely to work, because Beal would still have other options later in the FA signing calendar.

at this point ryan anderson max might be the best case scenario

you don't want to have 30 million in cap space available with terrence jones as the best player available and ernie grunfeld at GM

I heard mention somewhere that Mo Harkless was on the Zards radar screen. I like his potential....played well when he got quality minutes with Portland last season. He's only 23 and may have figured it out after not living up to expectations in Orlando.

Yes, he's another wing, like Porter and Oubre, but he's good defensively, athletic and long, has a nose for the ball and would be a good free agent pickup at the right price, whatever that is in this insane NBA marketplace.
