whew

It's good to see that some guys are signing for 1-year deals. I hope EG does something like this. We're not going to be in position to make a big free agency move in the next 2 years, so I don't care if we blow all our money on an overpriced mid-tier guy as long as it's for no longer than 2 years.

Seems like this would have been the perfect offseason to completely reboot the franchise.

Liquidate all of the assets, start from scratch and rebuild while the markets sorts itself out.

The Wizards are setup for about half a decade of finishing either outside or near the bottom half of the 8 playoff spots.

Or do they sell Horford on moving to PF, and then trade Milsap? I'd love to get in on that.

They got worse at head coach, worse at point guard, worse overall defensively, passed on resigning a good young wing in Solomon Hill, but have had a 'really really solid' offseason because they signed Al Jefferson, a player who has regressed for three consecutive seasons, for less than Mozgov money.

I think the AJ contract is completely fine, but you guys are blowing it way out of proportion. The Noah and Mozgov deals are garbage, but that doesn't mean Big Al signing for less money is immediately GREAT. H'es a non rim protecting big at the twilight of his career. He signed for backup C money and should be an adequate backup for the next year or two.

Axing Vogel is a bit of a head scratcher, but I have a ton of respect for Larry Bird and there's also the school of thought that suggests that NBA coaches have little to no statistical impact on the productivity of individual players.

Solomon Hill is a year younger than Paul George, you know, three time all-star, and two time all nba and all nba defensive player. Re-signing players for the sake of resigning them is bad business, especially at a position that's pretty much settled.

I'm also not sure how you can make the case that the Pacers got worse at PG. At worst Moving George Hill for Jeff Teague is a push, but you can make a good case that Teague brings a dimension to the Pacers offense that Indiana has been missing for quite some time.

He's a more dynamic playmaker than Hill, can get into the paint and there's absolutely no drop off when it comes to three point shooting.

As for Jefferson, I very much doubt that he's is going to be the Pacers starter, and even if he does end up on the floor at the beginning of games, I'd expect him to be more of a change of pace guy playing limited minutes.

Letting the market set the price for Mahinmi is smart business, and if it doesn't work out Jefferson will be part of a group of guys (Allen and Turner) that will hold down the position.

The Pacers are doing the smart thing. They've tweaked their roster and added depth, all while not compromising their future by necessarily bogging down the roster with poor value contracts.

I'd trade the Pacers overall situation with the Wizards in a heartbeat.

Sadly, the Wizards don't really have the assets to get in on the action if Millsap becomes available.

I remember Horford having a strong preference to play at PF vs. Center earlier in his career. Signing Howard and letting Horford walk does seem a bit silly for the Hawks, but an offer from OKC or GS could be pretty hard to turn down.

Here are some of things still left for free agency:

According to a source, the Kings are still in the mix for free agent forward Ryan Anderson. The Sacramento native is bound to pull in close to $20 million annually in the new world of the NBA.

The Kings made Anderson a top priority coming into the summer and it appears that nothing has changed.

According to reports, Anderson will meet with the Houston Rockets on Saturday. It is unknown if he will visit with the Kings before making a decision, but his parents and sister still live in the Sacramento area.

As the Miami Heat focus on a Sunday meeting with Kevin Durant, free agent Dwyane Wade is intensifying talks with other teams, including the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks, sources told ESPN.com.

Wade could look to schedule meetings next week after he returns from vacationing in Europe, sources said.

If Rondo leaves for Chicago, have to imagine DMC wants out of Sacramento.

Saw somewhere that Sacto never had plans to keep Rondo. Still, if they sign Ryan Anderson and can move some of their excess bigs to Minny for Rubio (assuming they don't get a big man FA), they'd be decently balanced. At least offensively.

Biyombo is rumored to the Lakers -- why oh why did we not sign this guy a couple of years ago when he was available and cheap. As I was screaming for us to do (a few others too -- notably Nate, if I remember).

Wherever he goes, given today's signings he is going to make a lot of $$. Much more than we can afford to give him.

Yup, we peaked during that really weak year in the East a few years-ago. As things currently stand, we will be at the bottom looking up, we will get the crumbs of FA.

Now 4 teams after Wade per the link below:

Bulls
Mavs
Nuggets
Bucks

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--dwyane-wade-fielding--20-million-a-year-offers-012602222.html

Would Chicago adding Rondo be enough to convince Wade? Then possibly swap Gibson for a guy like Koufos?

Lopez/Koufos
Mirotic/Portis
Butler/Dunleavy
Wade/Grant
Rondo/Calderon

That's a lot deeper of a team than what Miami is shaping up to be IMO, even if Bosh does play. And regardless of their regular season record, they'd be dangerous in the playoffs if healthy.

Wow, that is the cherry on top of the hemorrhoid soup. Hammonds appears to be a stupider GM than Grunfeld.

Btw, if Phoenix wanted him this bad, why didn't the Wiz trade him to them in the Morris deal?
