I hate Brady, but if he gets us KD, I would have no choice but to worship him.

On the flipside, if Ainge signs KD I hope he texts Riley a picture of the contract with his middle finger next to it.

I've decided to stake out a lonely position in the anti-KD camp. Just not enough pun possibilities.

Re: KD Part III - Weatherman, tell us, will there be fireworks or a rainout?
Marley2Hendrix,
A disjointed response to your previous question...
I'd rather have the Celtics not make any other moves of significance if KD is added until at the earliest the 2017 trading deadline. Then perhaps consider some possibilities but I sure wouldn't mind keeping the picks and just using them.
Let's say the pick next year ends up #5 and someone like Buddy Hield looks like he will be the 50th best player in the NBA. Celtics could potentially trade #4 plus Bradley for a lower pick plus Hield. And then have Hield as a Bradley upgrade on the cheap for 3 more years. Not saying I would make that move but that is a way to keep the Celtics out of financial trouble while modestly improving an already strong team. And still have a decent 2017 pick. You obviously only do such a trade if Hield or some other young player looks good and a trade down in the 2017 draft makes enough sense.
It really depends upon how much Wyc is willing to spend. I do think he would be willing to go over the cap and blow past it for a couple of years. The guy does seem like a real fan. But whether he would be willing to blow past the cap for 3-4 straight years, I don't know about that. We obviously don't know what the future cap will look like and how draconian the luxury tax penalties will be. I haven't been paying that much attention to the cap so a lot more people know a heck of a lot more about that then me.
As long as the Nets aren't much better than expected, trading for a big name around the deadline wouldn't be difficult but I don't think it would necessarily be the best move at all since teams will really want to rob the Celtics of assets. These assets I think may be better used at just continuously improving the team in a manner that isn't too risky. Not saying I wouldn't ever trade for a stud but I think when you have KD/Horford and the rest of this roster, their is no great need to add another big name player from a team like Chicago that was only willing to trade Butler in a lopsided deal.
I do agree with you that with KD Boston should be in no hurry to make trades. I would just be looking for the best veteran big rim protector willing to sign for cheap.
This Celtics situation as long as KD/Horford are healthy turns to gold if KD joins the Celtics. I am just stating the obvious but it was crazy from my perspective that some fans thought KD would be crazy for strongly considering/choosing Boston.

Relax...........go catch some sun and drink some beers. It's all good. I'm about to take my act outside in a half hour and spend time with my family and drink some cold ones by the pool. Nothing is getting announced until tonight anyway.

Re: KD Part III - Weatherman, tell us, will there be fireworks or a rainout?
I posted something about this in the other KD thread but thought it was worth repeating. We keep hearing GS has a great shot but I'm just not seeing it. I think it's either OKC (likely, obviously), or Boston.
In 2013, SI did a piece on KD where he talked about how much he hated being 2nd in life: http://www.si.com/nba/point-forward/2013/04/23/kevin-durant-oklahoma-city-thunder-sports-illustrated-cover
Relevant quote:
Durant wants to be the guy. He has this insatiable need to get out of the '2nd' limelight. Knowing this about him, do you find it likely he joins a team that just won 73 games? A team who boasts a back-to-back MVP, the sole unanimous winner of the award in history? A team, mind you, that just eliminated your team weeks prior? He would clearly be second fiddle to Curry. Second. That word again.
Most players wouldn't want to leave such a legacy, especially not a guy who's had issues with being second his whole life, right? I'm just not buying it, fellas. Not when there's a very compelling alternative destination, a team that just signed a guy you reportedly want to play with, the second biggest free agent of this class, a team that has a ton of assets, and a top 3 coach.
OKC is the only threat in my mind, and it's a big one for obvious reasons. Even still, Horford stated he couldn't get assurances that KD and Russ were fully committed for the long term, presumably it's the fear that Russ will leave for the Lakers in a year. And with Ibaka now gone as well, that team is on shakier grounds than we think. Not to mention, this past year Russ got more MVP votes than KD and the media were starting to call it his team at times. I wonder how Kevin felt about that.
It's still a long shot but we have a much better chance than we may think.

“I’ve been second my whole life,” Durant tells SI's Lee Jenkins in a profile that will hit newsstands on Thursday. “I was the second-best player in high school. I was the second pick in the draft. I’ve been second in the MVP voting three times. I came in second in the Finals. I’m tired of being second. I’m not going to settle for that. I’m done with it.”
