Except for the second best free agent he could possibly get, he struck out on...who exactly?

Mickey takes his minutes and I'm happy for the trade up.

RJ Hunter is looking pretty damn good in summer league. Last year and this year. I wouldn't deal him for a 2nd rounder.

Young? Well, I would trade him for a box of old KD OKC Thunder sleeved jerseys at this point.

Young has been in the league for two years and he still can't play himself off the end of the bench. I would cut him.

If Cavs are truly looking to move Love to make space for Wade, maybe we can get him at a decent price. Then turn around and trade for Westbrook. Putting Love back in a situation where he's truly wanted would make a huge difference for his morale/psyche. I'll remind you that once upon a time Kevin Love was the king of 20/20 games playing as a one man show in Sota. All of that wasn't by accident.

I realize we'd have to use some of our young guys and likely both Brooklyn picks to make those deals... but who really wants to sit around and wait for this GS/Cavs thing to be over with? Remember last year when we had GS beat at home, then went out there and beat them on the road? Add Westbrook and old skool Love and we're still right there with both teams. I think we have the best coach in basketball, as evident by doing the things we did last year with mid-tier talent up and down the roster.

There would still be plenty of decent players out there in FA we could get to improve/fill out the roster, and some who would be instantly interested in joining a team like that. I think Speights would be a great fit for our team off the bench. We could possibly get Amare Stoudemire at an exception level. Obviously Barbosa fits our system. There are a lot of possibilities and it doesn't hurt to think outside the box and/or dream a little.

Given the above wish list, I see our lineup would look like:

PG- Westbrook
SG- Bradley/Smart (can't trade both, preferably keep Bradley)
SF- Love
PF- Sullinger (RFA so we can go over cap)
C- Horford

Bench: Brown, Speights, Amare, Barbosa, Rozier

Win 50 games.
Win a series or even two.
Get a top 3 pick in a loaded class.
Try go for Westbrook or Griffin with our cap space and ever improving image in the league.
If we get one of the above then trade the pick in a win now move.

This GM thing is easy... :D

And he's shown no improvement. None. Guy hasn't even changed his body. You'd think he'd be able to add some strength considering the fact that he has keys to the practice facility for 2 years but nope.

At this point we best just carry on with our roster as it is, maybe resign Johnson and Jerebko and make sure we hold onto that '17 BKN pick unless the Nets suddenly become really good or Cousins becomes available. We tried the instant reboot, but came up short so it's time to be patient now

I think there is a very strong chance Ainge makes a trade today before Amir and JJ's contracts become guaranteed at midnight. Definitely something to keep an eye on today. Keep an eye on the Bulls or Cleveland if either make a strong push for Wade in my opinion. Especially teams looking for cap space.

Middleton and Monroe?

Philly and LA? Am I supposed to believe they are better positioned than us? I think LA will bounce back, but philly has years before being good unless Simmons is a superstar. I don't think he is.

Hearing the Celtics want to re-start the Middleton talks, but the Bucks prefer to bring Wade in and play him as the "PG" next to Middleton. They'd play without a true PG and let Antetokounmpo do the PG duties.

Could change, but Middleton was part of the recruiting pitch for Wade, so unlikely the Celtics will get him.

What about when Wade resigns with Miami?

Hear anything on what the Middleton talks centered around? Middleton + Monroe? Middleton for Picks? Middleton for Bradley +?

The Bucks aren't likely to trade Middleton at all. Probably not Monroe either.

I'd be shocked if Wade goes to the bucks. Seems like he is throwing a bit of a tantrum right now and visiting teams just to spite Riley.

I also want to add that Riley isn't the amazing GM people make him out to be. It's pretty easy to look good when players coincide to to play on a certain team. Lets see how he does rebuilding a team from the ground up.

Any word on any trades in the works before Ainge has to make a decision on Amir/Jerebko?

Sounds like they will just guarantee both guys. No one needs them to waive them to clear space anymore. All the big salary guys are off the board now. Boston will look to use them as trade pieces later.

Another thing, the Celtics were very involved in trying to get Boris Diaw. They wanted him badly, but San Antonio was asking for something of value from Boston.

He has great basketball IQ but dude is absolutely lost on defense even in SL... Close to Young level bad.

Interesting. Thanks Smitty.

I would've given up James Young for Diaw in a second.
