Parson's wanted a max deal, but the Mavs were worried about giving it to him after all the injury problems. There were also rumors of his relationship with the Mavs souring somewhat, but nothing specific.

Yeah, I guess it was just confusing because Parsons essentially proved he could return from microfracture playing at a career best, and the Mavs said that the injuries weren't related to each other. So unless we're not getting the whole side of the story, it wouldn't seem like the injury should be a big deal.

I think it had to do with both of his seasons here ending in injury. The Mavs know Dirk only has a couple of seasons left and they already have a big investment in a guy with injury concerns in Mathews. From the way people who are close to the Mavs were telling it, they weren't comfortable making a long term investment like that. You can kind of see that in the deals they made this off season. They handed out the long term deals to young players with no significant injury history (Barnes and Powell) and brought in couple of older players with injury concerns, but on 1 year deals (Bogut and Williams).

They do want to bring Beaubois back, but don't know where he fits on the roster with so many guards already. That was really all I got about that situation.

He can play SF like Ray and Devin did last year....

Also, what about Darius Adams?

I know it was only one game but he seemed to be quite impressive, probably his last chance to get in the league at age 27 but has a lot of overseas competitive experience.

Worth taking a flyer on, especially if its a catalyst to parting ways with Harris or Barea.

Darius Adams is horrible. He just has one good game but 4 poor games. He can't play any defense. He can't make sounds decision and is turnover-prone. Pretty useless even on the summer league roster. His playing at the end of the game costs us at least 2 games already. We can't have a liability like that. I'd rather play Seth Curry. Roddy B is easily 10 times a player than him.

Most of the Mavs contingent was already off to Las Vegas, but I had a chance to talk to some people today and here is what I got:

On who impressed the most here in Orlando:

"Vander Blue for sure. And Honey (Honeycutt) the last few days after he got his head out of his ass."

I asked if either could go to camp:

"Good possibility. We'll see. We have a lot of guys we like on the Vegas squad."

I asked about Hammons:

"Excited to see what he does in Vegas. He can't be worse than the idiot we just cut." - I wasn't even aware McGee had been waived at that point, but it was pretty easy to guess! :)

I asked what is left for the roster:

"We need another athletic big. Someone who can go up and get the ball since dumb dumb got cut." - This was from a different guy entirely who wasn't part of the first conversation!

More on the roster:

"Maybe another shooter, but there isn't much out there. Probably just take some fliers on young guys who impress in Vegas."

So nothing too big, but a couple of little nuggets.

Thanks for following along and reading. I really appreciate all the kind words too!

I always defended McGee because I felt like public perception of him was shaped mostly by those Shaqtin' videos. I guess he was actually just that dumb.

If the Spurs slip, the Mavericks could possibly win the division? Umm no chance Mavs win division

Las Vegas Summer League Notes

Post#30 » by Smitty731 » Sat Jul 16, 2016 3:05 pm

As some of you may know, I was at Las Vegas Summer League this week and had a chance to talk to a lot of people. Unlike Orlando, where you could get a lot of time to chat, Vegas is a little more controlled. I was still able to get a few things from each team. If you want to read the notes, you can find them here:

1. A.J. Hammons has some potential, but they are glad they don't have to play him early.

2. Justin Anderson has really packed on some muscle. They are excited about his improvement. They think he'll be in the rotation for sure.

3. Jonathan Gibson has really stood out and will probably make the team out of camp as a 3rd PG.

4. Keep an eye on Nicolas Brussino. He wasn't in Las Vegas, but they love him. They think they have an absolute steal.
