Re: Around the NBA Thread 2016-17
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Draymond Green is a wannabe KG.
KG was a great trash talker but didn't do anything stupid, Draymond tries to be the same way but just fails because of the stupid s*** he does. Stuff like this puts you in the JR Smith realms of respectability around the league.
Also, KG was a much better player.

I'm just wondering at what point KD realizes he made a giant mistake. Right now after idiot Green shows the world his junk. At halftime of a regular season game when Dray goes on a belittling tirade against his fellow players, chewing and cussing them out for losing the game. Or during the playoffs when he loses his head and gets thrown out and/or suspended, costing Durant his ring.

Cousins is coming across well in all these Team USA clips. Dude really needs a change of scenery.

Draymond Green is no KG, but let's not get it twisted - he's no JR Smith either. He sent a dick pic.......which still isn't as bad as telling Villaneuva he looks like a cancer patient.
In any case, I would still love to have Green on the Celtics.

Random OT note.
We should NOT sleep on the Pacers this season. People keep talking about the Celtics/Raptors as the 2 teams fighting for the #2 seed. I think we absolutely need to add in the Pacers to that 2nd tier.

This. I think the additions of Teague, Jefferson and Young will be huge for this team. Myles Turner will also be playing with increased confidence, seeing as how he looked great during the Team USA scrimmages. He might be mobile enough to even play alongside Big Al. I think they're better than the Celtics and Raptors.

I echo the thoughts regarding the Pacers. I believe they are the 2nd best EC team right now.

I mentioned that awhile when people were saying they "weren't worried about Toronto".
Raps and Pacers will be very tough teams this season. Can easily finish ahead of Boston. And without home court, I don't see us beating either.... Pending rosters stay as is.

Indiana should be a nice team but I think their hype has gotten a bit strong. They added guys but also subtracted guys as well.
George Hill <->Teague
Ian Mahinmi <-> Al Jeff
Jordan Hill <-> Thad Young
On the whole they are better especially on offense but the D might be actually worse. Also possible Big Al is hurt or too old. Also think the Teague/Ellis backcourt might be bad. I think they are a borderline 50 win club, doubt they break through 50.
I mean, has any NBA player lost more games the last three years than Thad Young? Doubt it.

Teague is better then Hill. Don't forget that Teague was injured for a good portion of the season.. Even when he was playing he was hobbled.
Al Jeff is a much better offensive player over Ian Mahinmi. Although Mahinmi is the better defensively.
Thad Young is a much more versatile forward VS Jordan Hill being pretty 1 dimensional.
They made nice moves this offseason. I don't think they made Championship moves. But they will be a very solid 2-4 seed this year, and they have Paul George...He is good enough to win a couple series for his team.
Boston to me didn't make AS MANY moves as Indy....But Boston made Championship moves. My definition of Championship Moves are adding pieces or assets that will help you win a Championship...Horford is a Championship piece. Jaylen Brown COULD be a championship piece as a trade chip OR player. Beyond that Danny didn't make any bad trades which is key in maintaining his flexibility to add more Championship pieces this upcoming year.
I think Danny COULD HAVE made a lesser trade or 2, but a non Championship type trade ala Adding Thad Young, etc. But I am glad that he didn't. I'm not a fan of sideways transactions that keep you in middleland.

This is confusing, and I may not be understanding you 100%. I'd think a 'championship piece' all defends on the puzzle around it... Like "the missing piece to a contender" or a player you can built a contender around. I don't think Horford fits either of those. Teague goes to S.A. and he could be the upgrade they need at PG to contend. Is that a championship piece? Or is it just all stars? Was Milsap a championship piece for Atlanta? Dwight a championship piece for Atlanta? You put Thad on the Raps and he gives them a better shot at Cleveland next year. Is that a championship piece?

I think Indiana got worse. Who can shoot on that team? Teague is not a better shooter than Hill, Thad can't shoot, and Big Al is a nice offensive piece but he can't defend to save his life. Plus on top of it all I think MacMillan is a worse coach than Vogel. I guess the regular season will show us who is right?

yeah it's a bit confusing, but it's all relative to the specific team. So you're right in that guys like Teague or Millsap could be considered a Championship PIECE. But I am talking about Championship moves. not pieces. So I'm talking from a GM's perspective. following?
For Boston, adding Al Horford is a Championship move. Drafting Jaylen Brown is a Championship type move. Maintaining cap flexibility and draft picks in a move geared towards building a Championship team. That's all Boston is concerned with.
To the contrary, I feel like a lot of other teams in the league look to build playoff teams.
Dwight signing in Atlanta isn't a Championship move. They lost Horford and Teague. They took a step back. But adding Dwight will keep them in the playoffs....so to me that's not a "Championship move"
You're thinking more along the lines of SAS adding Gasol. Yes, he's a Championship "piece". But they are already championship contenders so they don't need to make "Championship moves"

I think Hill to Teague is a sneaky downgrade. He and Ellis are going to be atrocious defensively. Mahinmi to Jefferson is also a massive downgrade, although offset by a significant improvement with Thad Young replacing Hill.
Indiana's fortunes rest on the development of two guys - George and Turner. If Turner becomes a legit starting center, and George continues back on the ascent to top-5 player he was on pre-injury, they will be a top-4 seed.
