Re: BOYCOTT WIZARDS TICKETS!
If having season tickets make you and your wife happy, it is your money and by all means you should do it Zards. I discovered last season that I was no longer getting enjoyment going to the games because I knew this team was going nowhere. It also bothered me greatly that people were buying tickets for seats around me that were much lower than what I was paying. Just finally realized that the "juice was no longer worth the squeeze." I'll still go to the games every now and then and still root for the Wizards. I will just have the luxury of deciding when I will do that and at what cost, instead of the Wizards dictating that no matter how well they perform and who is running the ship. To each their own.

BulletsForever had a night last year when they got group seats. We should have a realgm night where we by blocks of $20 lower bowl tickets on stubhub.

Bottom line is this: Guys help me. My resolve to boycott the Wizards is weakening at a very brisk pace.

1) Sabbaticals are healthy. They allow you some perspective. If what you learn is going to these games in the same seats -- or whatever psychic benefit you derive from being a STH -- is indeed really important to you, then you will have gotten something out of it. And perhaps you'll learn that your time and money is better spent elsewhere.
2) You can go to any game you want. The secondary market is so damned soft that you can often get good seats for pennies on the dollar. Buying them from other STH's keeps more money out of the org's hands.
You can come over to my house the night of the home opener. If you're still in cabin john, I'm like 10 minutes away

So buying tickets on the secondary market like Stubhub, etc. is not breaking the boycott?

Not to me, it isn't -- particularly if it's at a discount. I wouldn't buy them through the Wizards ticket exchange because Ted gets a cut of that. Stubhub, Craigslist, etc. As much as I can't bring myself to financially support the organziation that continues to employ Ernie Grunfeld, I am still a fan of the team and its players and would support them.

I am not going to another game until Ernie is gone. Of course I will watch the games on cable for at least the first third of the season. The rest will depend on how well they are playing.

Re: BOYCOTT WIZARDS TICKETS!
There can be varying levels of "boycott" that include going from a full season to a partial plan, going from two season tickets to one, buying a few tickets on the secondary market rather than buying a plan, or buying no more tickets at all. Any of these might (or might not) contribute to sending a message to the Wizards, but all of them should save you some money.
In theory, watching games through a legal televised channel is breaking the boycott if ad revenue is based on viewers, but I will be watching them on TV and probably not buying any tickets, even on the secondary market, until I see Grunfelled. If someone offers me free tickets, maybe I'll go.

Re: BOYCOTT WIZARDS TICKETS!
I use the scalpers... I always get incredible deals on really good seats. $100-120 for $359 VIP floor seats. Of course the opponent matters but out of the 10 games or so I went to... I never came close to paying full price and more than 50% off face value of the tickets the majority of the time.

Re: BOYCOTT WIZARDS TICKETS!
If my circumstances in life change; someday, I will buy Wizards season tickets just because I can. (Yeah, I do live in Hawaii.
)
I will give my seats away if I don't like the product, or, just to bless someone else that may otherwise not attend.

Re: BOYCOTT WIZARDS TICKETS!
Season tickets are down roughly 20% from last year. This drop is much bigger than I had anticipated, though largely due to the ticket price increase, disappointing 2015-16 season, and retention of Grunfeld.
The gate last night was 9,345 (tickets sold) - Preseason opener on a Tuesday night vs. Miami
The gate last year was 11,670 (tickets sold) - Preseason opener on a Tuesday nigh vs. Philly
This season ticket base this year might even be lower than the 2003-2004 season, the year Jordan left. Ted better get off his ass and manage his product better, as it's obvious the average fan has seen enough when 1 out 5 of your season ticket holders choose not to renew.

Where do you have the season ticket data from?

Re: BOYCOTT WIZARDS TICKETS!
I had center select tickets. My wife and I enjoyed going to games for the past 6 years. We called it quits this year. My rep keeps on calling too. We loved going to games, but it pissed me off that
1. random people from other sections could sit in empty seats who paid pennies compared to what I paid.
2. the secondary market is really weak, except for the games you want to go to (ie. cavs or golden state).
3. Tired of Ernie.
My rep said, see you when we get on a streak...and my response was good luck with that.
Why buy season tickets? The secondary market is such a bargain. You get to pay for the games you want and you don't waste your money on games you could care less about. I can get VIP tickets to 2 or 3 very loud and crazy games for less than what I pay now. Are you holding out because you want you monumental rewards points??? I have +300k points. I have yet to find ANYTHING that I want. It's like going to Chucky Cheese and using 1M tickets to get a collectable blow up Rupp Paul doll....
If it's something you and your wife love doing...go for it. But my wife and I think our money is better spent walking to Black Salt or Makato. We are going to do what we do for the Caps....go when we feel like it. If enough lower bowl people boycott I think Ted will get the point.

This your first time period, or first time since you moved to Maryland?
I probably won't go to any games this year, unless I can get tickets for borderline free.
You'll be able to go pretty often for borderline free.
I just checked out StubHub and Ticketmaster, the latter of which has full price tickets from the box office selling side by side with resale tickets.
Look at the games against bad teams on weeknights (like the Suns on 11/21). The resale prices on both sites are the lowest I've ever seen, even compared to when I was a plan holder 5-10 years ago.
They're running between a third and a half of the gate price. For example, for 109-M, where I had seats for a few years, the gate price is $82 and the StubHub price is $35. You can get seats in 112-H for $68, and the gate price for those is $192. In the 400s, there are places where $37 gate price tickets are going for $9.
If the prices are this low this far in advance of the game, you know you'll be able to get them even cheaper on F Street 5 minutes after the tip.
The thing about jacking up the prices for plan holders and the gate is that now the unsold gate price seats have to compete with the resale seats, and there are too many for them all to be given away or sold to groups at a discount. So a large chunk of the arena is going to be empty for many games except for the big draws like the Warriors and the Cavs.
Screwing over the plan holders can make a few extra bucks when the team is good, but it leaves them exposed when the team is bad.
