Expectations for Kevon Looney?

Post#1 » by AdonalFoyle4Prez » Fri Sep 9, 2016 2:28 am

'Tis a boring offseason, and waiting for futbol americano to start already. Anyways, not too sure if he'll get any PT or have any significant role on the team (And hate watching him play in the D-League, but if helps refine his skills and gain confidence, I suppose it's something).

I'm thinking 28-12-7

That's his locker combo.

Actually I just hope he's well enough to play and contribute here and there. My hope is that he carves out a niche by mid season. If he could provide some solid minutes here and there, it could really be a good surprise.

Nice article from today about Looney and his progress. It says he's been working out twice a day, five times a week, in anticipation of starting training camp on time.

He's added 20 pounds of muscle since he was drafted. It would be incredible if Draymond and Durant took him under their wing to really get this kid dialed in. That's if his body doesn't betray him.

I hope he makes McAdoo a dump candidate.

If the Warriors get solid contributions from Looney, it would be huge. He is the perfect Warrior, with his size/length, perimeter shooting and ball handling abilities. I think the only thing holding him back is his health. It will also be great to have an elite rebounder on the team, which I think we will improve on this area this season.

He is going to be the guy I'm the most intrigued by, just ahead of Jones.

It was good to see that Jones might be ready before the start of the regular season.

Looney can definitely contribute some minutes and has the skills to compete in the NBA. However, I have no expectations.
Mainly because I'll believe it when I see it, regarding his hips and overall health.
I like Myllie's take... He's much more optimistic about Looney than I am...

Sounds like he will be ready for camp, so that's... something... at least.

Imagine if Looney shows real progress this season, then you may have a trade piece you could use for other potential needs.

I hope Looney can be part of the extended rotation and show himself to be either a trade asset or someone we can trust on the court in games that matter (playoffs).

What i expect is that he will either be injured or not good enough to be very effective. I hope i'm wrong.

I suspect the MONEY/Cap$ stuff is such we want to keep the low $ young guys IF... they can play. We MIGHT find a trade.... but we can't add salary so?

I probably have the most unrealistic expectations for Looney but I'm really high on him. I think he cracks the rotation and is a contributor playing minutes in the playoffs.

I just don't see how a 6'10'' player with freakish length, using said length to be a disruption on defense, is a rebounding machine, and who can space the floor isn't a contributor in the NBA. The only thing holding him back from contributing is health.

I don't think he's an all star or anything (can't really create his own shot) but there's without a doubt a spot for him to get minutes.

I'm not really sure who'd you be targeting to trade Looney for, but I think he fits what this team needs. Should be able to play 4 or 5 and be a threat at both spots.

I used the word may.....for a specific reason.

I expect him to be out of the league once his contract is up.

The second coming of Baby Jesus?

I think the difference is mentally and game wise Looney is a garbage man whereas Baby Jesus thought he was superstar.

I mean UCLA didn't run any plays for Looney and he still found ways to make an impact.

I have no reason to suspect anything other than this right now.

The injury certainly doesn't help. But I've never been a believer in him as an nba prospect even without the injury.

Health is a pretty big factor it's like saying this car has all the bells and whistles but the engine's junk and the axle is cracked.

With that huge caveat aside I would take a wait and see approach. He's young so we can't expect him to come in like Draymond (who had a rough first couple years himself).

He's still learning the nuances of the game on the fly in a mans league.

I'm not going all homer on him like Onus or all negative nancy like Flop but somewhere in the middle since he's a big question mark. Health is a huge caveat that can't be overlooked, no matter how promising the prospect.

You have to take a wait and see attitude on him based on the severity of the injury.

But if he is finally healthy there is no reason he can't in the very least rebound the basketball, and the kid is more skilled than what we've seen. Onus is right that they never ran plays for him and he still had a positive impact....And that was while injured but still playing.
