I understand they plan to play Gordon at SF.

He could also developed into something special and a 6'8 SG is something I would kill for.

What would it take?

Lol. I doubt that happens and we'll probably be better than Detroit this season.
I normally don't reply harshly to people who quote me, but you've been chastised on your own board for being overly optimistic about your teams chances so you coming here and pretending to "drop some knowledge" about the magic is absurd.

Also, I wouldn't take any of the Magics starters over any of the Pistons starters. I even waver on Ibaka over Harris as his production has dropped for three straight seasons.

I would be surprised if the Magics record is within 10 games of Detroit by years end.

Ibaka plays the 4, Gordon/Hezonja will play the 3. I wouldn't trade either one for Harris.

Harris plays the 4 for us as it would seem you didn't know. Have fun with Gordon at the SF. Being able to dribble, and shoot are usually good things at that position.

Gordon can dribble, zeeb. Shooting, well, that's another matter.

I thought Morris played the 4.

Gordon has a very good handle.

This. That's the scary part. If he ever gets a shot he will be a pretty damn good player. I think that is a huge key to Orlando's success him getting a more consistent shot or not.

Okay, I misspoke. He can "dribble" but handles? Not really.

I watched more then 25 magic games last year and my main takeaway is that Gordon on countless occasions would dribble into the lane and run right back out, or a vain attempt in the post but his handles betray him.

He is not a ball handler and has a long way to go. It's the same with Stanley. They both need a ton of work to really create their own shots.

So yeah he can dribble, but doesn't have the handles to do anything with it.

Gordon's handle, for a relatively big guy, is pretty good, really. I think the Stanley comparison is apt, so if you're holding him to a very high standard (like, handle for a point guard), then ok, I agree with you.

His handle for a forward spot is a plus.

To see what I mean, zeeb, answer the following:

Does Henry Ellenson have a good handle?

If you say "no", OK, because yeah, he'd be a disaster as a primary ball handler and shot creator for the team. I'd say "yes", though, because for a 6'11" dude, his handle is really impressive. In other words, to assess a player's handle, I compare him to his peers at his position. In that regard, Gordon has a good handle.

Okay I'll explain. I don't disagree with what you have said, what I've done is fail to provide context, my fault.

As a power forward his handles are fine. As a cleanup guy (which he is without question thus far) his handles are fine.

The Magic plan on placing him at the same position as Paul George, Marcus Morris, Carmelo Anthony, Kawahi Leonard, Gordon Hayward, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Rudy Gay, Chandler Parsons, Trevor Ariza, Jae Crowder, I mean I could go on, and on.

All of these players listed can either create their own shot, shoot the hell out of the ball, or the overwhelming Majority, both.

As a small forward his ball handling skills are absolutely unacceptable. As a small forward his shooting skills are horrendous.

In this era of NBA, the SF has turned into what the SG used to provide; steady scoring, and play making. Gordon can't provide any of that at his current skill level in both ball handling, or shooting and he isn't really a Passer either.

He cannot break down the defense off the dribble, let alone break down his own defender. He can't shoot the ball, so he can't even get the space he would need to even get to the basket.

This is what I'm talking about in context, and both the Magic and their fans are deluded if they think Gordon is ready to man the SF position right now.

Even players who can't shoot the ball, have the ability to get to the rim, or vice versa.

100% should be pf. If he gets a consistent shot watch out. If he did get a shot I hope Orlando wouldn't be that dumb to waste his talent at SF. It would be a crazy of them, hops pretty good handles (for pf) and can shoot (if that happened) wow imo

We're building a team based on length, kind of like the old Piston team with Rasheed and Ben. Biz has a 7'7" wingspan and a 9' 3.5" standing reach. Serge has a 9' 3" standing reach, Vuc 9' 4.5", in comparison Drummond has a 9' 1.5" reach.

Gordon will probably still get some backup minutes at the 4, along with Jeff Green.

A lot of Magic fans see Hezonja as a future starter, so where that leaves Gordon and Fournier, I'm not sure. Some think theirs another deal coming this year.

Put Gordon as SF is back to the past. We're playing another whole bb and putting a Gordon Ibaka Vucevic frontcourt is an inefficient old school style of game.

Magic with Ibaka, Gordon, Mario, Fournier & Payton could be a scary small ball line up...

But with Vuc & Biyombo on board you're probably not gonna see it often.

Unless they trade Vuc for wing help...

Ibaka / Biyombo
Gordon / Green
Mario / Acquisition
Fournier /Meeks
Payton / DJ

See this is what the lineups should be. Vuc is an absolute anchor that they need to drop as soon as possible. He's a good offensive center, but he is not mobile enough, nor is his man to man up to snuff.

That works defensively, and while still stilted offensively (Payton. I don't care if he gets triple doubles or not. So does Rondo. You have to be able to shoot the ball) they would be much better if they drop Vuc.

ISH SMITH: It started with a 3:30 a.m. contract agreement July 1 with the Pistons a few hours after free agency opened. More recently, it’s been dreaming about the possibilities stirred by that union. “I always ask people, ‘What wakes you up at night?’ For me, now it’s the pursuit of a championship,” Smith said after a recent group workout with his new Pistons teammates as they prepare for next week’s opening of training camp. “That really is what the case is. It’s like, we’ve got a real chance to be champions. And I know that sounds crazy and people think, ‘Naaah. Yeah, you guys got better; not champions.’ But we’ve really got a real legit chance. And as long as we believe it, nobody else matters.”

Yeah, the Magic actually seem pretty committed to a big lineup. They're zigging when much of the rest of the league is zagging, I guess you could say.

I think you see a lot of Gordon at small forward.

Per wiretap:

Josh Smith is basically trying to save his career. I almost feel bad for him tbh. The waiving was completely necessary to save face for our franchise the resulting dominoes, but it may have ended his.

Him being on GSW would be a decent fit IMO. At least running around on the second unit. He can play a homeless man's version of Draymond.
