James Harden is officially the PG for the Rockets
As opposed to him being the unofficial point guard for the past few years.
I still think that Bev starts as the off-guard (is that a new position?) and Gordon comes off of the bench. If everyone can stay healthy this season I don't think that it is unreasonable to think that Harden could push 10 assists per game.
I think that Houston goes into the season with the guard positions covered by Harden, Bev, Gordon, Prigioni, Ennis & Glove, Jr. barring a trade or someone really stepping up during preseason.

Re: James Harden is officially the PG for the Rockets
I don't think there's any way Glove Jr makes the team especially after the Ennis trade unless Dmo doesn't return (very unlikely) or a guaranteed contract is dumped/cut, including Dmo we are at 15. Although if he really impresses I could see Prig getting cut/traded but it's unlikely
But like you pretty much said this really makes no difference, I hate how much weight some people put into positional titles. I see it as a lead guard and off guard so Harden will stay the lead guard and Bev will stay the off guard. The one good thing about this is that instead of spending the first 5 seconds of a possession getting the ball from Bev to Harden in the half court and Harden will just bring it up himself

I must not be remembering someone because I thought that Glove, Jr. could make the 15 man even with Motiejunas on the roster.

Re: James Harden is officially the PG for the Rockets
Rough depth chart using who they will mostly guard as a position
Bev/Prig/Ennis
Harden/Gordon/KJ
Ariza/Brewer/Dekker
Anderson/Dmo/Montrezl
Capela/Nene/Onuaku
Onuaku has a really low guaranteed number but it is guaranteed for all 3 years and if they liked Payton more than him they would've picked Payton in the draft instead. He Wiltjer and Isiah Taylor will end up in RGV unless they REALLY impress the Rockets or impress some other team just enough

Sure he will handle majority of the rock, but at times he still needs a PG to help relieve his duties. Otherwise dude is going to lead the league in total TOs again.

I dont care what position you call him, Bev isn't a starter for a contender.

Who is the starting SG?
Is Antoni going Harden+Gordon at backcourt?

Re: James Harden is officially the PG for the Rockets
Just came out that GPII is guaranteed.
I'm shocked. My guess is Les is willing to eat one of his/Prigs/Ennis' contract after the training camp battle but interesting that we now have 15 contracts and Dmo's cap hold still on the books so it appears he is still returning. Someone might be close to being traded

Both Payton and Isaiah Taylor signed partially guaranteed deals. I don't think that means that they are locks though. I'm sure cutting them would be a lot less than cutting Prigs or Ennis.

Well, yes, but Payton's is fully guaranteed for the first year, not partial, although I found out the second year is completely unguaranteed so it actually isn't a big deal, maybe half a mil and Les has shown he's willing to spend for training camp comp before. Also could be a wink wink deal for GP to stay with RGV this year since they'll be paying him anyways, although I doubt the money is a big deal for him because his dad

Please keep Payton. I love his dad. I'm hoping to get some of my dads companies court side tix one game and see him and just run up and hug him
He will then realize we are meant to be best friends and we will become roommates and create a sitcom about our living situation...like the odd couple, but instead it will be the amazingly compatible couple
I'm not crazy, I promise guys

Do you love Stockton and malone too? Payton Sr was a total rocket killer.

Yeah they were a total blast when those two ended our championship streak twenty years ago with a 4-0 sweep.

If Payton shows up court side I demand someone hit him in the balls. Only then can all things be forgiven

Re: James Harden is officially the PG for the Rockets
I'm past hating Gary Payton just because he is absolutely gold behind the microphone when interviewed about the game. I'm not talking the charming, goofy, friendly thing that a lot of ex-athletes go for. He just oozes basketball knowledge and he is a fantastic storyteller. I'm hoping that his son makes the team so that maybe Glove, Sr. can become a regular on Houston sports radio and Rockets broadcasts.

Re: James Harden is officially the PG for the Rockets
It's a great idea for him to be officially the pg! He played so beautifully in the first game. I think if he keeps playing that way I can let go of my hate for him.
