Is this some kind of sick joke?

DIdn't like DRose in first half, but loved him in second. Used his talent to utilize his teammates.
KOQ plays like he is on 10-day contract.
Jennings - while he did not hit that many shots, liked his playmaking.
Maybe with time Melo will start to play like Team USA Melo and let other guy orchestrate the offense. ISO Melo can be deadly, but it totally kills the ball movement.

As far as KP goes I think he'll become what Paul George, Lebron and few others are for their teams. He will be the guy who closes out the game in second half.

while true, it was also houston's first preseason, wasn't it? shouldn't have been that bad. to give up 130 points is pitiful. this is where players are fighting for roster spots and minutes, right?

Personally, I would be using this game strictly as a benchmark.

What sets did/did not get open looks?
Who had effective man to man coverage?
How did D'Antoni (an experienced NBA coach) exploit your personnel?
How do the players react to the unknown? Do they get shook or do they fight through it?

These are all questions that this game could answer, which gives tangible areas to improve upon for the rest of camp

All I saw was no game plan. Guys getting their feet wet and all that.

Preseason gonna preseason. Overreaction-wise, we sucked defending the paint, and KOQ cannot do that. KP can only do so much, but even he can't defend the rim and Ryan Anderson at the same time.

Rational-wise, preseason gonna preseason.

Nah it was Houstons second. I forgot who they played before though. I do remember tuning in and they were very sloppy as well. As for the defense, most of the biggest runs came when our starters were out there, the guys fighting for spots played hard albeit not as skilled. I really don't know what to make of this game except that Noah didn't play and Hornicek didn't give anyone a play book. I really don't know what the strategy is in that. Sounds stupid to me.

As Rose said- Horny didn't care about defense much.
+ Since we have so many new teammates obviously guys are still exploring eachother both on defense and offense.

So what I'm taking away from this game is that KP looks better on offense, Melo iso is a no-no, Rose is flashing his potential, KOQ still needs some coaching, Lee is really promising, Cheese once adapts to speed and athleticism is gonna be a steal and Willy needs some coaching on D, but his offensive potential is huge.

Been beating this drum. The fact they didn't put LFT in to guard Anderson was just a huge fail. I understand getting your feet wet and maybe not caring about the outcome. But this is a team with a lot of pieces that put in a lot of work in the offseason. Just wouldn't want to start off like this.

Maybe it's all part of a grand scheme.

Better athletes not necessarily higher paced. The euro game is very fluid. Transitions are crisp. People forget how slow paced nba was before guys like Pringles came from euro ball and pushed up the pace. I think Willy will be good btw. He needs some serious work on defensive positioning. There's a few things I noticed he could easily fix when guarding his man near basket. Btw he needs to strictly play the 5 in the nba he won't be able to keep up with quick 4s.

IIRC, they only ran one honest PnR and that was in the 2nd half. Willie set a pick for DRose, he used to and went right. Willie rolled right down the middle of the paint sucking in the defenders. DRose found Lee wide open in the corner for a 3. Splash.

They have a ton of personel who would be fantastic in the PnR. We have to make that our primary option.

I've said this the last two years. It all starts with iso melo. The reason why he plays so well in the Olympics is because he's not a first option. He has to transfer that into the nba. He's not a top scorer nightly anymore. And offensively he's clearly the third option. Both kp and rose are better play makers overall offensively. When he learns how to play team ball the Knicks will then be contenders. Kp is the future and anyone who can't see that is just not keeping it real.

Guarding stretch 4s might be an issue for this team especially when Noah is hurt. Something to keep an eye on all season.

I liked what I saw from Rose, just didnt like all the times he jumped in the air to pass. Did it too many times for my liking. But good performance offensively. KP looks ready to go. Im not worried about KP this season. Melo needs to be more efficient this season. Point blank. Didnt like what I saw from him. But whatever, it is only pre-season.

I am worried about our backups though. Jennings looked awful, seemed like he didnt know wtf he was doing out there. Im not too sure Lance will repeat his performance from last season. Hes really only had 1 good season in his career. I want to see if he can still be a good 3 point shooter. If hes not capable of hitting the 3, our backup SF role could be a problem. Herangomez seems to have a nice touch around the rim, but he did a poor job defending the rim. Our team defense was poor all around though.

I never cease to be amazed that I continue to be amazed by people's complete lack of perspective or ability to read the game that they watch.

Tonight was a brand new team struggling overall.

Houston could have had a similar excuse but they were a little better prepared, connected and at home. They shot the lights out and that team of harden plus role players is t badly constructed for limited ambition. They will win some regular season games for sure.

But our team had a lot of very good plays early that didn't drop and a lot of sloppiness later especially on the defensive side.

KP is being anointed a first ballot HOFer here but he's got to be a hell of a lot smarter. As well as he played on offense he allowed Anderson to destroy him with uncontested jumpers on the other end. Anderson looked like a superstar.

On our side koq actually looked very good especially early. He's fit, he's playing within the offense well and he's defending and rebounding nicely.

Lee especially looks surprisingly good. His passing and most of all his defense were really strong much of the game. He's gonna be great for us.

Randall looks like he might have a good shot on this team after all.
Not so sure about ndour

Willy looked really good and plumlee looked better than expected.

Cheese impressed me too.

Melo did not have a good preseason game. Can we put away the pitchforks please?

Rose looked pretty good. I didn't see an injury. It pisses me off that people are practically rooting for one out of nihilism. He was fast and passed well but struggled a little as would be expected.

Jennings looks like a solid 6th man gunner

We finally have penetrators on this team!!

They ran a couple of PnR's with Rose and Melo that worked out well in the first half. Rose attacked, but couldn't finish.

Jennings was a little scattered with his own offensive game but in terms of orchestrating offense he did a better job overall than Rose. In fact it seemed to me he was a little ahead of his teammates in terms of where to be so that lead to some miscues.

Bench depth is indeed a big issue with this team though. Knicks should go to a short ro by default.
