Maybe it can work but not running the triangle.

I see Horny going Rose and Jennings a lot. So that would be KP and Noah with Melo at 3. So yeah they actually could really use another guard who can break defense down. A nate robinson type off the bench. Right now kind of counting on Chason or Baker to break through.

Maybe this is where ESPN is basing their predictions off of?

John MacLeod was a former NBA head coach. He spent most of his career coaching the Suns. Did real well. Ended his head coaching career in NY with the Knicks.

And the post was meant to see who's wound up too tight (on both sides of the ball). It's just one game.

Cool. Just to clarify when I was saying how dumb I was referring to espn or nbatv or whoever put that out there.

Guys it is way too early to panic after 1 preseason game. The team has only had a few practices together, no Noah and they didn't even draw up a scouting report for the Rockets. This was just the first feeler game to gain some chemistry.

The ball movement and offense as a whole was actually not that bad. The Knicks just missed a ton of open shots and easy putbacks. Rose and Jennings breaking down the defense and getting to the basket was great to see. Rose looks to be in great shape and moving well. He will be more than fine this year on the court. Jennings is so quick with the ball but his jumpshot is so inconsistent. His jumper needs to be simplified a little bit. Get Allan Houston to work with him.

KP looked so good on the offensive end and his jumper looks a lot better than last season. You can see the extra arc on his shot has helped. They need to run pick and rolls with him and Rose all day because it will be unstoppable. He had a lot of trouble on defense though against Ryan Anderson but I will give him a pass for this game.

Melo is well Melo. When his shot isn't falling his game looks ugly. Instead of posting they should work him off of screens more to get open shots which he can nail. Melo also has to stop driving into a congested lane. 70% of the time he will get blocked due to no lift and the others he will miss and draw no foul. Stick to the mid range Melo.

They will continue to get better as a team as this preseason goes on and Noah will light a fire under them defensively for sure. Also take no credit away from Houston that team looks good this season and will be a tough matchup for most teams. James Harden is a serious problem if he can really buy into the PG spot.

Yeah I mean it would have been nice if the Knicks looked better overall but 3/5ths of their starting lineup and half their bench rotation have never played together before and is playing in a new system for a new head coach that is trying to find a happy medium between the style he used and the Triangle. There were some disconcerting signs that hopefully can be rectified in the next few weeks but still too early to panic.

can we be happy that we finally have a guard that can take the ball out of Melo's hands....Melo is our primary scorer and I love Melo, but I hated when Mike Woodson made Melo dribble the ball up the court....Melo had to create his own offense, now Melo can play off the ball with Rose and Porzingis running the P&R

Jennings is a nut. Need him to play in control and be able to pick his spots off the bench. At least its only a 1 year deal. He is gonna be one of those players that is going to drive alcohol sales at the neighborhood liquor store just for me.

We really need Noah though. Our defense will be bad without him.

Wow it's crazy how people see games so differently. I thought Jennings played well for most part. He's a high energy guy. It seemed to me he was a play or two ahead of most of his teammates, lol.

Jennings looked good in a sense of getting to the basket and getting past his man, but a few of his shots reminded me of Jr. Smith. Just looked like he was excited though it was his first game I'm sure he'll play more under control next game.

I can't figure out if the "must-win" mentality for pre-season games are funny or admirable.

Did you actually watch the game or were you just boxscore vulturing? Cuz BJ played way better than the story his stats told.

SMAC-K wrote:The only thing I did not like was Melo being a black hole. Need to see the Melo from last year, move that ball man. I didn't like him just looking guys off and going into Iso. There were a bunch of times where Holiday cut and was wide up for a layup and he just looked him off. Then again he had a shooter (Holiday?) wide open on the wing and he just went into tunnel vision mode and decided to go 1 on 3 in the paint. We need that mature unselfish Melo, not the ball stopping ball hog.

Yep - same thing stood out to me in terms of Melo approach.

Can see Melo thinking I got a legit PG now so I'm going to get my buckets.

It took about 1 minute and KP's 1st block to realize franchise is in KPs hands now and for long haul -- stay healthy unicorn.

jeff can fix it. I think he jumps too high on his shot, but you're right in that the motion needs some tweaks

KNIXFAN_83 wrote:I've said this the last two years. It all starts with iso melo. The reason why he plays so well in the Olympics is because he's not a first option. He has to transfer that into the nba. He's not a top scorer nightly anymore. And offensively he's clearly the third option. Both kp and rose are better play makers overall offensively. When he learns how to play team ball the Knicks will then be contenders. Kp is the future and anyone who can't see that is just not keeping it real.

This is actually what I'm hoping and praying for. The fact is that Derrick Rose is still a top offensive option in the NBA and needs to be used as such. He needs the ball in his hands running the PnR, off dribble handoffs, or on the move. If KP continues to demonstrate improved footwork, ball-handling, and shooting, he'll need more touches.

It's actually a prime opportunity for Melo to make the game easier for himself. He came into camp in good shape, but his first step looks noticeably slower than from 2 years ago, and he can barely get off the ground at the rim. He's always ranked at the top or near the top of the league in hitting open shots. You can use the other threats to set up open shots or clearer driving lanes for him. It's time.
