Shouldnt that have been an offensive foul?

He clearly shoved Gortat in the back to get a clear path to the rebound.

That's only a foul if you're a DB in the NFL in 2016. Gortat and him both initiated contact and Embiid just adjusted quicker.

This is a 7+ foot Center handling the ball

Yeah, they were locked up a bit and both released, no big deal. Embiid is lookin' good. I really hope he goes on to have a great career.

Even in slow motion, that's not a foul.

On what planet did Embiid foul Gortat there? He barely touched him, he just jumped over him...

You know, the funniest thing to me is that over the last 2 years all we heard from haters on this board is how Embiid would never play in the NBA. His career was over blah blah blah. The kid, after not playing for 2 freaking seasons is putting up ridiculous stats. Is putting up #s like 11 pts 12 rebounds in 14 minutes of play. Meanwhile in 27 minutes a guy like Brandon Ingram is shooting 0 for 5 with 0 pts. if Joel Embiid continues to stay healthy and gets enough minutes he will EASILY be the ROY.

There was a reason he should've gone #1 in 2014, injuries are a cruel mistress. Good to see him playing well.

Rightfully so I believe. Even though it's pre-season he has shown that he has elite NBA skills and the only thing that can hold him back is injuries. If he's healthy he'll be a 20 & 10 guy pretty quick, possibly even 25 & 12.

Embiid looks to be something very special. The rate at which he is learning the game is unprecedented, he's getting better on a play by play basis. His talent level is clearly off the charts. His skill level on both sides of the ball is very impressive. His athletism is elite for his size/position and he's as large as Shaq. As large as SHAQ and he shoots 80% from the line. I mean whats not to like? All these great ability's but his greatest abilty Is his learning skills. The rate at which he learns mixed with all that skill and talent is something we have never seen and may never see again. We all just need to enjoy it, because with all that said he has been Prone to injury so you never know how long we will be able to witness his talent (for the sake of the game of basketball i hope he has a 20 year career).

Hell you could see his skills in college too. He will be well worth the wait for Philly if he can stay healthy

This kid has got to stay healthy cause he is a talent. Wasn't he only playing ball for a couple years going into college?

He isn't as large as Shaq (even if we're talking about rookie Shaq), just as LeBron isn't as large as Karl Malone.

I'd love to see him succeed because I think it's always great to have fantastic big men in this league as well as great guard. This is the era of the guards which is a joy to watch, but it would still be fantastic to see some legitimately great big men in the mix as well.

That being said, it's pre-season, I've seen too many great players stink it up in the off season and be amazing when the real season starts, and on the flip side lesser players putting up great numbers in the preseason and vanishing in the regular season. I'd love to see him start off the regular season strong and build from there, but right now it's just fun to see him run up and down the floor and put his talents into functioning use.

Smh just imagine if this guy never got injured and already had 2 years of experience. He a freak that reminded me of Hakeem. Hopefully next offseason he gets to work on his game instead of rehab and show us.

Nope.

You have to really blatantly shove someone (or they have to flop egregiously) to get called for an offensive foul in this scenario.

Besides which, the "foul" happened before the ball even hit the rim, it might have easily bounced towards Gortat.

He's about the same height as Shaq (7'2" in sandals, he grew 2 inches since being drafted) but not as heavy. Might be as heavy as rookie Shaq, tho.
