Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
This is NOT a Fats impersonation of Clifford, though it reads like one.
"Bottom line is he’s not going to be ready. He hasn’t done enough," Clifford said of Zeller.
"You couldn’t, with any realistic expectation, think that he could possibly play much, if at all. He’s had no preseason, so there’s no way he could be ready to play."
"Cody’s injury is an issue. But we’re lucky we have all the guys we have," Clifford said.

I still think they should consider re-signing my favorite player, Tyler Hansbrough. As I understand it, the team can ship off Wood, Sulaimon, Andrews, Ellis, Graham, and Harrison to Greensboro. Waive any of those contracts necessary to get Hans back on board. He would be ready to go from day one because he knows the team, including Brian Roberts and Roy Hibbert. Kaminsky is nowhere near ready to play at the five.

So now Zeller is miraculously ready to start the season? I saw this movie last winter, with a different Hornet as the star who flamed out. Let's just say I do not trust the medical staff to be dispassionate with their decisions.

Kind of funny that some folks are preemptively criticizing Cliff for not giving Cody enough PT / responsibility after coming back from injury, and now you are preemptively criticizing him for rushing to bring Cody back.
Cody came back a couple weeks ago and had some full contacts practices but was sore and took an additional two weeks off. Now he's had a couple full contact practices and feels good. Not sure what there is to be suspicious about there, seems like they are being pretty cautious, especially given that the cause of this injury took place six months ago.

Clock is ticking on the Zeller extension. Some thoughts from ATH

Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
The author compares Zeller to Walker, Kidd-Gilchrist, and Lamb. All but the last of these players have been injury-prone. The decision to extend Lamb, as I pointed out a year ago, was good, but premature. He had yet to prove himself during the regular season. Perhaps the front office has decided that extensions are highly risky, given the number of things that could go wrong.

I would definitely look to extend him. He will get stupid offers if he hits restricted free agency. I really don't see much upside in waiting and it would be disastrous if we lost him or had to give him a massive overpay. I'm not confident we could find anyone better who is also relatively young in free agency. Having said that, I could totally see this front office doing something crazy like letting him walk and resigning Hibbert.

Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
Cody Zeller staying healthy is super important to this team. Cody got unfairly lambasted in the MIA series last spring because he was playing on one leg. CHA won a lot of games last year with Cody starting. His defensive versatility and screen and roll ability on offense suit Clifford's systems. No one else on this team, esp not Hibbert and Hawes, can do what Cody does.

Is there any chance the Hornets and Zeller's representatives sign an extension before the deadline ?

Sure, though we haven't really heard anything on it. Kemba was a Halloween signing as well.

Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
Extremely impressed with the way that Cody has been moving the ball this season, and even more impressed at his lack of TOs while doing it. In the 7 games we've played, Cody has 4 TOs total. He seems like such a great fit as a mobile C that can move the ball and make good playmaking decisions, dive to the rim and finish through contact, and play tough D.
He's still learning how to use his strength on D, he's only averaging 22.3 MPG but is also averaging 3.6 fouls per game, too much for him if he ever wants to play more minutes.

I take back everything bad I ever said about Cody. Hes a real stand up dude and a HUGE part of the success this season. Nothing flashy but more than gets the job done. Im officially back on the Cody bandwagon.

I've been very impressed with Cody's willingness to go to, and finish with, his left.

Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
I put this on the TT thread a couple days ago. This summer I thought Zeller would settle in as a top 12-18 center but perhaps that was a tad pessimistic from a value standpoint. Maybe 10-14 is more accurate depending on how teams value primary offensive usage from the 5.
