The play where Morris shook Melo and got all the way to the basket for a lay-up. First problem bad individual defense. Melo was way to aggressive to start the set and over played and overreacted to Morris first move so he got blown by. Second problem when you watch the play both KP and Noah are either standing in the paint or standing on the opposite block. Neither player rotated over to cover that mistake? Why how can that even happen? Noah and KP both have better defensive IQ than to let a player have a free lay-up. But they both stood and watched him lay it in. Last year KP would have went hard after the block even if he gave a lay-up to his man. Noah from watching his Bulls days would have slide over to try and take the charge and if they dumped it off to his man for a lay-up he would have yelled at someone for not rotating down to cover him. Instead none of that happened and they just watched.
That is just one play but is sums up all the issues we are having on defense.
I remember that play. I think Melo over played Morris because on a couple of plays before that, Morris was hitting jumpers right in his face. This resulted in Melo playing tighter on Morris but Morris then just blew right by him. When you decide you are going to do that, there has to be communication between the players. Melo needed to tell Noah that he was going to send him his way on the next play Morris catches the ball. There has to be communication. It's not rocket science, we do it on the freakin playground. Just talk and let eachother know what you are going to do, don't just assume that help is going to be there. If you are playing a guy straight up and forcing him to shoot over you for the first couple plays, then all of a sudden you decide you are going to over play him on the next possession, you absolutely must inform the guy in the paint that you are going to force your man his way so he is ready and alert. We seem to be lacking in communication and guys are just not on the same page.
Right that is problem 1 I agree. The second part is if a guy tells you or not you see a guy coming for a free lay-up you will try and do something about it. Even on the playground that happens even if the man warns you or not. Like never have a seen a play were a guy takes it from the elbow takes 2 dribbles 2 steps and lays it in while two 7 footers stand on the other side of the block and watch. Regardless of if Melo told them he is going to suck this time down and not stay in front.
Preach!
I agree, the responsibility falls on everybody. You have to be alert and aware all the time,
How about last night man, when Porzingis kept giving Harden layups/dunks
Look at Porzingis just lay out the carpet for Harden to go to the basket. This is just not acceptable
