Re: Stein: Nets prepping an offer sheet for Motiejunas
Houston isn't going to match this. I'm sure Marks will put in a TK and a player option which kills any possibility of him being a trade asset. It's what Dallas did with Parsons. If they match they can't deal him in year 1, and its hard to deal him in year 2 because of the unattractive player option. Morey won't like that and will let him go.

Maybe they could offer less annually if they offered 4 years though.
IMO it will be a 2 year front loaded deal with a team option for the 3rd year.
I think Houston would match a 2 year deal. Gotta guarantee all 3 IMO.
True, but we can still offer much more than 12 a year. I can see us offering more than what Houston can afford if it's frontloaded. We have cap space this year that will not be touched. Like 16 a year 2 years with a low team option.

Jordan Walsh > Lonnie Walker and Charles Bassey

Smart for Marks to wait for that December deadline to pass...now if Houston matches, they have to keep him all season, something Motie may not be happy with either.
One more reason for Houston to say "no" means more advantage to Brooklyn.

Probably right. I am sad even though I know it's the right decision

The curious part for me is who Houston will waive if they do match. They love all 15 guys they have. My guess it that Wiltjer would be the one to go. Maybe Brown if they think they can keep Beverley healthy all year.

I like DoMo. He is skilled big man... i'd say, like a stretch 4. Not sure how much the offer sheet is for, but he's an asset to a team trying to win. In our playoff series with HOU he really battled hard with Draymond. He didn't always come out on top, but he's got my respect.

Brown wasn't even in the rotation when Bev was out, he was still behind Tyler Ennis, completely unguaranteed, is old, and terrible. If they cut Wiltjer for him I would be furious. Wiltjer isn't good either but he's young and might be the best pure shooter on the Rockets already. His stroke is ridiculous.

They like what Brown brings to the locker room and Harden loves him. I mean loves him.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened earlier.
If his physical checks out he's well worth Mason Plumlee money.

It'll be above what Houston offered, but front loaded so the Nets can pay the bulk of the salary off this season.
That's the smart move here, IMO. Use Morey's tactics against him to make it like a $20M cap hit this season so Houston won't dare match because they'll be in the luxury tax.

I am not questioning this in any way because I know you have extreme connections just curious
why does houston love brown? I haven't read any of that down here and wiltjer at least provides an upside of being a Novak because he can shoot lights out
I always assumed we kept brown over priggy because we could cut him

Brown was on a Summer Contract, so he could have been cut even easier.
Mainly, they love his fit in the locker room. He's a high character guy. For a team that had some chemistry issues, they are loving the way everyone is getting long now. And James Harden is a huge fan of Brown too. That doesn't hurt at all.

Well then I hope we cut ennis over wiltjer if we match
Having good locker room guys (like brown as you stated from your sources) is understated...and I really like wiltjer as a future piece or trade piece because of his shooting
I'm hoping we do match, too. D-mo has some serious talent and would fit with any of our bigs

Well there are limits to how much a contract can change year to year, I believe it's 7.5% (right cap guys?), if you are referring to the unbalanced contract given out to Lin and Asik, I believe that was because of the Arenas provision, the first two years of someone in that situation (like Tyler Johnson) are restricted to the MLE and any year after that cango up to the max. You can't just be like "here's 30 million but you get 20 up front then 5 and 5" that's illegal under the CBA. I'm pretty sure, hopefully I'm not wrong and look stupid

LOL. This is pretty much my exact thinking anytime I get too far involved into CBA things. I know just enough to look really silly sometimes.

Up or down 4.5% on a contract with the Nets.
He was #20 in the 2011 draft.

Dmo isn't as athletic but he is definitely a plus defender at 4, he positions himself well, draws lots of charges, and uses length to contest shots when he isn't quick enough to stay close to smaller players. At center his rebounding and rim protection are not good though
My question is how their rebounding looks with Brook and DMo, primarily.

So let's assume what the Rockets offered him was $10M per for 3 years. If the Nets want to beat that and say offer 12.5 per for 4, that's 4 years, $50M. They can structure the deal to be where the cap hit is $20M the first season and then $10M per season after that for the Rockets, but remains at $12.5M per for the Nets while payments also remain at $12.5 (or whatever increasing structure they choose between $10-14M).
Perfectly legal under the CBA and perfectly applicable to this scenario because Motiejunas is an RFA.
I think the exact amount they'd have to offer for the first year is ~$18M which puts Houston just over the luxury tax making it a guarantee that they don't match. Of course they could always match and cut someone, but it's safe to say Houston doesn't like him enough or they'd have re-signed him already.
