Damn, Garnett is the first unanimous POY winner. Congrats... well deserved.

Sadly, Duncan won't get his same due in '02-03.

This doesn't bother that much. Generally people become fans of players because they really believe that said player is the best. If it is borderline between two players, most people vote for their favorite player not illegitimately but because they really believe they were the best.

What does bother me is I've seen voters IMO blatantly manipulate their ballots to help their favorite player. For instance I've seen this situation unfold numerous times. I'll avoid using players names

There are two obvious candidates for POY
Player 1
Player 2

Then there are two 2nd level candidates
Player 3
Player 4

Homer for Player 1
1. Player 1: in post really plays down supporting casts, gives player every allowance for problems on resume
2. Player 3: talks up what an underrated season he had in comparison to player 2
3. Player 4: talks up what an underrated season he had in comparison to player 2
4. Player 2: token compliment, and then very harsh attacks were voter makes none of the allowances they made for their favorite player.

This bother me and it is obvious when it is going on.

How about we name names ? The legitimacy of the project in my opinion is more important than hurt feelings -

I enjoy the project, and I wouldn't want to destroy it with negativity.

it's up to you - I mean, if you are going to point a finger, even if it's only in your mind - the person you're pointing it towards should have an opportunity to explain themselves.

The creators of this thread topic have made me clear we shouldn't attack posters, so I'm following orders. A lot of voters have made clear negativity dampens the fun for them, and I would rather have a lot of good voters with the occasional BS ballot, than a group of 3 angry people complaining. My statement is out there and I think most people know of the situations I am referencing but I am going to drop this line of conversation.

Reading back through some of these RPOY threads, and I have to say this was one of the more disappointing ones to me (obviously, AK is my favorite player). But the level of discussion over his season was fairly low given the quality of the project.

I think that's to some extent because KG was (deservedly) a unanimous POY for that season. People tend to be more interested, and put more effort in the years where #1 player in the league is highly debatable - for example 2005-06. I can't see anybody having any semblance of a decent case over Garnett in '04.

Part of it is because this was done in 2010. The forums peak was in 2011-2014 era.
