I don't see guys switching on Ben. He's not a threat to shoot so there's no reason to switch when they can just go under the pick.

Teams switch because shooting is faster than fighting over a screen, but we know Ben probably isn't shooting those.

Assume Freshie is talking about the SIXERS switching on defense. Which is a good point.

You know what allows potential issues to take care of themselves? Having a logical line-up on the court with guys in their optimal positions.

Malcolm Brogdon has been pretty awesome this year in a reserve role for Milwaukee. We know Colangelo liked him based on the Team USA selection.

There were quite a few of us that were lobbying for him in last year's draft.

Yet another undervalued upperclassman that looks like a 2nd round steal.

Still sick that we didn't pick him....even if it was with the TLC selection (who I liked).

Fundamentally sound SG, could play the combo role as well....good, smart defender and makes his shots from outside. Would be our starting SG

He would have been a good choice, but I'm still shaking my head that they passed on Skal Labisserre two times, in order to select TLC and Korkmaz.

I wasn't that high on Skal. I do think it would have been good value to take Skal where we were picking but we didn't exactly need another big man.

I didn't really like Skal either. Skilled shotblocker with a hint of a jumpshot, but he's such a bad rebounder that he makes Okafor look like Reggie Evans. He'll likely never be a starter in this league. He has a ways to go to ever even be a Richaun Holmes caliber reserve F.

Chinanu Onuaku was the real miss. I was pounding the table hard for him on draft night. I would have taken him in the Top 10. Slid to pick #37 to the Rockets.

He's eventually going to be a starting 5 in this league. He would have been the perfect piece on this team that allowed us to get rid of Noel and Okafor with no regret.

Yea, value wise I could see it.....but we have so many bigs we def had to pursue the perimeter with those picks IMO.

I had 3 guys I wanted to see us nab for the perimeter: TLC/Brogdon/McCaw

TLC was a decent project pick....he checked most of the boxes you look for, with development he could be a decent player. I was on board. Korkmaz was a decent stash project as well I guess.Whether he ever pans out, who knows. Being tight on roster space likely factored in, so taking a big wing with a jumper is never a bad way to go. I totally can understand those 2 picks.

Brogdon was just a ready to play, NBA role player. Not much upside, but you pretty much knew what you would be getting with him and Id take it in the late 1st. I understand taking swings on "upside" players, especially with our roster and its lack of talent....but a seasoned 23/24 year old rookie would have been good for this team. He complement's Embiid/Simmons perfectly and like I mentioned earlier, would likely be our starting SG for some time. He can handle the ball, is smart, would defend his position, shoots nearly 40% from 3 and makes his FT's.

I don't think that the guys that we took were worse than anyone else available at the time. That doesn't mean of course that there won't be players taken behind them that turn out to be better, but Luwawu and Korkmaz were reasonable value and fit picks at that time. It takes years, especially that late in the draft, to determine who the best players are, and Korkmaz obviously punted on the whole season so we have no idea with him. Luwawu has looked more and more comfortable though recently, and I think projects well as a 3 and D guard.

I don't think that Skal would have done well here.

Wondering who takes a flier on Motiejunas now that the Rockets renounced his rights.

I think BC gets destroyed in the PR world if we took any bigs in this draft. Or it would have totally deflated what little value Noel/Okafor have if it looked like we were moving on. On the other hand TLC looks like he could grow into a great 3-D shooting guard (which is perfect imo considering how much Simmons/Embiid are going to dominate the ball). I'm not super familar with Korkmaz skill set aside from being a shooter... whcih again we will really need. I'm totally fine with the picks. I think if we really wanted we could still get Skal or some such rotation big as a small part of a bigger Noel/Okafor deal.

Anyone else notice Jabari Parker going off recently? He's all of a sudden throwing down some nasty dunks,....,from distance. Plus he's scoring a bit.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18286778/new-nba-collective-bargaining-agreement-kevin-love-rule-allowing-two-designated-player-contracts-first-free-agents

tl;dr the new CBA will allow teams to offer two designated players a 5 year contract. The previous CBA only allowed teams to offer one 5 year contract to a first time FA. This means that Embiid and Simmons could both be extended for an additional 5 years after their rookie contracts are up.

I always thought Parker was going to be a star. Not a superstar, but an all star type.

Tom Burns gave a nod to Hinkie today on the radio.

The new CBA will allow teams to offer players a 6th year option on contracts as opposed to 5. So in rough terms. Where a player might walk away from a team and leave $25 million on the table. Now they would be walking away and leaving $50 million on the table. Yes NBA Players are very well compensated for what they do. But leaving $50 million on the table is no joke.

Burns stated this new option will help smaller market teams grow and keep the players they draft. Making the draft and drafting the right guys all that more important. Because it reduces the chances that a player in his prime will leave the team that drafted him.

He then went on to say that a lot more owners/gm's might/will think about adopting a Hinkie type strategy of tanking (without announcing it) because if you draft a stud you get to keep him a lot longer. And the chances of trading for a stud or one leaving in free agency now has been reduced.

IMHO Hinkie knew this would happen and this is why he has loaded up on #1 picks.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way. (Marlo)

Did Hinkie know about the part where if you draft multiple guys at one position you stunt their development and diminish their trade value because their development is stunted and people can clearly see that you need for a trade to happen so you are in a weaker position at the negotiation table? Did Hinkie know that part too?
