Cousins attempts to physically intimidate writer

DeMarcus Cousins unleashes profanities at Bee reporter in latest attempt to control the media

At 6 feet, 11 inches, the Sacramento Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins towers over most people, including Sacramento Bee columnist Andy Furillo. Now add to that picture this: Cousins angrily jabbing a finger into Furillo’s face, shouting in a profane and threatening manner, because of a column The Bee published last weekend. Cousins then refused to talk to any reporters in the post-game interview while Furillo was in the room.

Monday was the first time Furillo saw Cousins after the column published. The altercation started with a glare from Cousins, and quickly escalated as the player closed in on Furillo, shouting “We’re going to have some real f---ing issues. Don’t ever mention my brother again.” He continued his profane tirade, as teammate Garrett Temple got between the two and kept his arm around Cousins’ middle, and Kings spokesman Chris Clark motioned to Cousins to stop.

“He is a bully, to be sure,” said Bee columnist Ailene Voisin, who has extensive experience covering the NBA, as well as the NFL and MLB. “He bullies everybody. He bullies his coaches, his teammates, team employees, reporters.

“But this is the first time I have heard of him intimidating anyone physically,” she said. “He normally glares, stares and refuses to speak to the cluster of reporters if someone is present that he is annoyed with at that particular time. Or, he will simply refuse to answer a question from an offending reporter.”

Perhaps the reporter is the one who is a disrespectful punk?

Leave his brother out of it and sounds like there would have been no issues.

Article seems to be a smear on Cousins. A lot of reporters, and their un-named sources, should be put in their place. I'm not saying that is this situation, but if there was a reporter present who I knew wrote BS about me, I'd refuse to speak with him there too. That doesn't make someone a bully.

IDK, some of these writers kinda deserve to be put in their place. As for being disrespectful, it kind of sounds like Cousins was reacting to someone else being disrespectful.

It does seem like a big overreaction on Cousins' part, but I'd imagine there's also some history here that isn't in this article.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

He seems to love the fans, saw him walking around with his girl last summer in NYC and he showed me and my friends mad love.

This is what the writer wrote:

For Cousins, this is his second late-night outing on the club circuit this year that ended badly. In May, TMZ caught him at The DrYnk in Tampa with his younger brother, Jaleel. The celebrity gossip website reported that he and his brother were trying to get into the club’s DJ area when a confrontation broke out. Jaleel wound up getting shocked with a Taser and arrested while friends hustled DeMarcus out of the place.

Not really disrespectful, in my eyes. The writer offers no opinion on the matter and just presents a few facts regarding a previous incident that was in the public record. Cousins was entirely out of line.

Furillo & Voison are known to smearing Cousins' at any time as they can. They've been going at it for a while now.

First time I heard about Cousins not liking Leo Beas (Cowbell Kingdom -- local blog-ish reporter) but I know his material and he is a complete idiot. So, I'm not surprised.

I think it's worth mentioning that Kings ownership has basically given Grant Napear (the team's long time announcer) the green light to rip into Cousins anytime he wants. And Napear has taken the liberty to do so on more than one occasion.

That's a paid employee of the team, not a writer or reporter. Let's just say I don't see the Pelicans ownership endorsing their announcers to do the same with Anthony Davis.

The new Rasheed...

So it only makes sense for Cousins to demand a trade to Detroit

Drummond for Cousins!

Make it happen SVG

So because TMZ reported that, it means it was "a few facts regarding a previous incident that was in the public record"?
Are you serious?
Wow it really doesn't take much for people to believe what is "reported" these days, and yes I know, I used to be one of these people.

Some of the replies in this thread reminds me of that Chapelle show skit "when keeping it real goes wrong."

yea it sucks when you're disrespected or wronged, everyone's natural urge is to equal the score, but real life doesn't work like that. mature people learn to assess the situation and control their emotions. this is just another example that this guy doesn't have what it takes to be a leader and winner. If I'm a GM or coach I'd want this guy nowhere near my team. no thanks.

No matter the setting the Media is dirty. They love to vilify this guy. Whenever cousins does something "out of line" or something they don't agree with, they publish some blown out of proportion story. I think he is just in a bad situation in SAC. Put him somewhere with some real vets and a hard nosed coach, and you might see a different player.

The Kings don't own Napear's local radio show in Sacramento. Whatever he says about Cousins, it is on his own dime. Napear doesn't "rip" into Cousins on the Kings' broadcast. So no, Napear does NOT have "the green light to rip into Cousins anytime he wants"

This reminds me of the tirade Webber went on to reporters back in the day. A pay for play paper in the heart of the cesspool that is the state capital of California, yeah, they have my sympathies.
