You'll be shocked to learn that NC's repeal of HB2 seems to be on hold.

HB2 is still in place and after checking with NBA and NCAA sources that means it's status quo: no future championship events or an all star game in the years ahead in North Carolina until there is change. This from the NCAA tonight: "The NCAA's decision to withhold championships from North Carolina remains unchanged." – Bob Williams, NCAA senior vice president of communications

Dan Roselli, co-founder of the Packard Place entrepreneurial hub in uptown, said HB2 makes it “devastatingly hard on us as entrepreneurs” to recruit companies to come to North Carolina.

“The long-term impact is what I’m worried about,” Roselli said.

“I think we have done a billion dollars in damage to the brand of North Carolina...Is the state of North Carolina going to collapse? No....but does this make it harder? Yes. And it just makes it frustrating.”

“There’s been collateral damage in a battle we didn’t start,” Minges said. “And the saddest part is while we thought the end might be in sight, those economic losses are almost certain to continue into 2017 and beyond.”

The N.C. Restaurant & Lodging Association has been working closely with policymakers in Raleigh to “get HB2 off the books,” said Lynn Minges, president and CEO of the group. The controversial measure has cost the state’s tourism industry “hundreds of millions of dollars,” she added.

It’s becoming increasingly likely North Carolina will go without NCAA tournament games for at least six years.

“As of now, nothing has changed, so we are staring directly at a six-year drought of NCAA championships if this is not resolved early, very early in 2017.”

I keep telling y'all this whole thing has been nothing but political football from the start and y'all keep acting surprised. Nobody cares about transgender rights or anything on either side, it's just Team Red vs Team Blue.

Conservatives in NC don't have a stance on LGBT rights?

No less than Liberals, honestly. The Libs pander for LGHTBR issues just like the Cons pander for Fundie issues. Whatever gets 'em votes. Ol' Cooper could've had HB 2 repealed months ago but told CLT to stand down on their repeal b/c he hadn't won yet. Coop and the Dems are just as guilty of all this money leaving NC (if not wholly guilty depending on which side of He Said, She Said, you're on).

Honestly, if the Dems started crusading for bathroom privacy laws to keep men out of women's rooms and vice versa tomorrow, the Repubs would snatch up rainbow flags to wave to spite them in a millisecond. These two parties make money making us root for one against the other.

I'm talking about the constituencies. There's a reason NC approved Amendment 1 by a 60% vote. Evangelical Christians, a large majority of whom are Republicans, support limiting LGBT rights and not for political reasons.

It's not accurate to say that the GOP and its party members don't care about LGBT issues.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/22/opinion/north-carolina-doubles-down-on-bigotry.html?smid=tw-share&_r=0

This is a travesty for all North Carolina residents, who will continue to suffer a backlash from companies that simply don’t want to invest or do business in a state that condones discrimination. And it’s likely to get worse. On Thursday, William Barber II, the president of the North Carolina NAACP, said he would ask the national organization to call for an economic boycott of the state. Job expansion plans by some companies and some conferences have already been canceled, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Basketball Association have decided to move some sports events out of the state.

So basically, team red would rather sit back and watch the state's economy suffer than to side with team blue. It's sad that it's come to this.

More to it than that IMHO. It's true that there is some team red vs blue going on, but also...

There are folks that honestly believe that HB2 is the right thing to do, both on the ground and in the NCGA.

Some reps that think that they will not get re-elected in '17 if they don't support HB2, and they could be correct.

There are reps that think that team blue was playing games with them all summer with HB2 and don't want to 'reward' that.

Other reps that see HB2 as a win and don't really see any need to back down on it.

In rural areas some HB2 support is more about sticking it to the cities and colleges, since it affects them the most right now (lots of anti-big city sentiment and view colleges as having been corrupted by liberals).

I could go on, but there is a lot more going on here than Red v. Blue. HB2 has become a very symbolic issue and as such it's going to be pretty hard to repeal.

Personally I'm pushing my representatives to work on repeal, but I'm not expecting it this upcoming session. Maybe after the '17 or '18 election, but not this coming year.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

North Carolina lawmakers could repeal House Bill 2 on Thursday under a deal struck Wednesday night by Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper and Republican legislative leaders.

Senate leader Phil Berger announced the deal shortly after 10:30 p.m. The announcement capped a day of intensified negotiations and sometimes contentious meetings of lawmakers from both parties.

Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore took no questions. Details of the deal were to be released later Wednesday.

They said the Senate will vote first, at 9:15 a.m. Thursday. The House will then vote.

The movement on HB2 comes ahead of a deadline Thursday from the NCAA to make changes to the controversial LGBT law or lose the ability to host sports championships through 2022.
