Say Zizic does beat him out, then what? Then we've paid a 1st rounder for a "back up" center who will either have to be paid good money or let walk?

Too shortsighted of a move IMO.

Definitely a valid argument. Cap room goes out the window in 2018, though it would anyway unless they deal KO and at least two out of the IT/AB/Crowder/Smart group ahead of it.

I have previously advocated looking to see if they could get Aldrich from Minny on the cheap (read: Zeller or Jerebko and MAYBE a 2nd round pick) if we're looking for a defensive center option primarily. But there are also a good deal of big man options in the free agent market in 2017 at varying likely price points depending upon what they are looking for, including Noel who brings an athletic element currently missing.

As you know, I love Nurkic, but I don't see them going that route. Much of it are the points you bring out, but, looking specifically at doing so this year, the likelihood of really being able to work him into the current structure is a cause for concern and I don't see Ainge wanting to possibly rock the boat. He's surely done that in the past (Perkins), but this is a different time and so much is still so up in the air as it is.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but do you think the Celtics & 76ers could be interested in the C's dealing the '17 Brooklyn pick for Embiid? I know there is risk due to his injury history but I truly believe he is a generational talent. Solves the logjam of bigs for Philly who can then draft 2 high prospects this year (Fultz & Jackson????) or use those picks to trade for a star like Butler who suits their roster. Plus we keep our flexibility to sign.a max FA (Hayward) in the offseason.

Personally I think Philly says no but if I were Ainge I'd make the call.
This is hardly even fair, the rest of the league is playing checkers and Danny Ainge is playing 12-dimensional chess.

No way 76ers trade Embiid.
Noel, Okafor, sure. But not Embiid.

Embiid
Saric
Simmons
???
Dennis Smith Jr

This team could be REALLY good.

Yes, I agree - they would be crazy to deal him - it is Colangelo though.

I'd be backing them to be a 7 seed next year and an ECF contender in 3 years if I had any faith in Colangelo. Simmons seems legit to me and Embiid obviously is. They're some shrewd movement away from being incredibly interesting. Heck, I think they already are.

Report: Kings to offer DeMarcus Cousins $200M-plus extension this summer

The Kings would be stupid not to do this.

The question is (and always has been), does Cousins really want to be in that hell long term? We've seen star players take less money to go to greener pastures (pun not intended, but hey; it works here) before, so it will definitely be interesting to see which path Cousins decides to take.

He can say whatever he wants right now as far as him wanting to stay in Sacramento, but the fact is that it's all lip service until the time actually comes where he has to put his John Hancock to the paper. LeBron said he wanted to stay in Cleveland, too (the first time). Look how that turned out.

Well let's see. If it's a 6-year extension that's roughly one million dollars per win over the life of the deal, assuming that the Kings continue to win 30-35 games per year. If it's a shorter extension the cost per win is obviously higher.

Trust the process.

Competition never hurt anyone.

Not only that but who better to transition a guy like Zizic to the NBA then one of his own countrymen that plays the same position

I'm just not sure it's the best use of resources.

Well the flip side to this is that your mid to late first rounder could be another James Young or RJ Hunter. You know what you're getting with Nurkic, a flawed player sure but one that provides a skill set that the Celtics currently lack and he's signed for cheap dollars. I still prefer Richaun Holmes from philly but I don't think he's available. I think they wind up moving both Noel AND Okafor by this time next season

So what is the value of Jahlil Okafor? Can we get him for pennies? I haven't been watching him or anything but I find it hard that a guy who led his team to the NCAA championship, drafted 3rd and is a big body can be this bad. I mean he's an upgrade over KO and Zeller right?

I'd offer Rozier for him just to stop him from hurting their team/pick. But yes, he can be had for pennies-- big men who don't defend nor rebound and live in the paint aren't exactly en vogue.

Hopefully it happens so we can stop talking about him. Hopefully Blake is next.

I'm not sure I've ever seen someone less interested in playing defense.

So the nets are asking for 2 firsts for Lopez confirming that he is available. Need to hold onto these nets picks now unless someone truely transcendent becomes available

Nurkic has serious flaws in his game but he's tough and physical, which is what this Celtics team needs.

Celtics have 1 big guy Horford. The rest are trash. Not concerned Nurkic would be blocking anyone.

At least they have talent.
I could see them in the playoffs next season if they stay healthy .

Bingo, he didn't exactly block Jokic at all either. If Zizic is good he's gonna play
