Don't Kill Me: SAS/OKC/NOLA (Aldridge to OKC)
I know this wouldn't be likely at all, but gauging value here and I figured I'd toss it out. Looking for another near all star type to put next to Westbrook and seeing some Spurs fans not overly thrilled w/ LMA, figured I'd try:
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=zm3gfqj
NOLA Out: Holiday, Ajinca
NOLA In: Kanter, Payne
New Orleans gets their offensive minded center and a young PG prospect in exchange for a PG who I don't know if they plan on retaining. They also get Ajinca's deal off the books. Kanter is out a few weeks but right now the postseason looks unlikely and a few extra losses may not hurt long term.
San Antonio Out: LMA
San Antonio In: Holiday, Sabonis
The Spurs make a big time move, but get a huge upgrade at the PG spot from Parker. He's a San Antonio legend but at this point is getting a bit beyond his best years. Sabonis is a guy who to be honest has looked good for OKC and is a smart young player. I think he'd thrive under a guy like Pop.
OKC Out: Kanter, Sabonis, Payne
OKC In: LMA, Ajinca
OKC gets a second star next to Russ, moving the youth to give him a shot at another run. Taking back Ajinca is part of the price but he could play some backup C as needed.
I don't know how awful this is but wanted to try it. Just looking for something different more than anything.

Re: Don't Kill Me: SAS/OKC/NOLA (Aldridge to OKC)
Looks awfully rich for OKC. LMA isn't putting up great numbers in SA but he's still an All-star and top 25ish player. Especially on his current contract, he's worth a helluva lot more than anything else on the table here. The next best asset here is Holiday and he's on an expiring deal, which really just shows how weak everything else is. It would be a poor decision for SA to give up their 2nd best player just to take a rental on some damaged goods and a not so great rookie. Spurs don't get any better in the short term or long-term with this deal. If they were set on moving LMA, I'm sure they'd be able to find a better deal than this. They could give Ainge a phone call and ask for the BRK pick, which is much closer in value.
A Kanter/Roberson + Payne deal is something that can probably get you a Wilson Chandler level player, adding Sabonis isn't going to upgrade you to a perennial All-Star.

I like Sabonis and Payne but I don't see them netting LMA.
Edit: I would love to see Pop develop Sabonis!

Re: Don't Kill Me: SAS/OKC/NOLA (Aldridge to OKC)
Here's the thing, I actually really like it for the spurs long term. They need a pg going forward and holiday seems like a good fit for pop. Problem is after this trade they have Parker and holiday and I can't see them moving one of them to the bench and I don't like the fit together really. Sabonis would be awesome for pop, but again the problem is he's young and pop probably isn't going to mortgage this season for the future. Value wise I don't mind it.
For the Pelicans I'm meh on this. Don't really think it's enough value for holiday and not sure Payne has shown enough to believe he's going to 100% be a starter in this league. Plus they take on Kanter with his injury. If you changed it to Asik instead of Ajinca I'd like it much better.

I actually don't mind this for the Spurs tho ideally you would have a taker for Parker. I like it for the Thunder as well.
My issue is mainly with the Pelicans. Holiday is playing really well and Kanter and Payne wouldn't be enough to make me consider moving him--even with his injury history and contract status.

Agree with Chuck, I feel the Pels are on the lising end. Holiday is a good player and Kanter is negative value

Alright scrap that. Figured Kanter's value to NOLA was helping some, considering they're looking into giving a first for Okafor at this point.
Why is Kanter still negative value? He's been great. The only reason I can tell is injury.

Too good for Okc for sure. For the Spurs I actually like it. Something should change from Okc to pelicans.
The thing is that this is bad for the development of Murray who showed flashes. Don't see Parker leaving too...

I think OKC would have to take Asik back instead. Kanter's pretty neutral. His contract is more than JV and Vuc. They're very similar players.

Holiday is better than a first and Okafor costs WAY less than Kanter and is younger and under control longer. This is way way in the wrong direction for the Pels.

Re: Don't Kill Me: SAS/OKC/NOLA (Aldridge to OKC)
Absolutely not. No way on earth does LMA get moved for anything less than what Ibaka got. This, plus a top-8 pick might not get the phone hung up.
The Spurs shouldn't look to add Holiday to a team with Parker on it, especially given Jrue's expiring status. Trading Tony plus assets for Jrue could make sense. But trading the team's second-best player for his is just weird.
It's frankly shocking how undervalued non-Kawhi Spurs players are.

Well Sabonis is the same expect his value has increased because he's proven he can play in the league which is a big deal and Jrue is arguably worth at least as much as Dipo and likely more because he's the better player and clearly OKC didn't place any value on Ilyasova.
Let's not turn this into some silly woe is me nobody values the Spurs thing when that's not remotely what this deal is. Maybe it is undervaluing LMA, but taking to extremes serves no one.

Re: Don't Kill Me: SAS/OKC/NOLA (Aldridge to OKC)
This trade is incredible lopsided for OKC, its hilarious. Kanter has no trade value and Sabonis+Payne is not enough for LMA, not even close. I mean this trade is bad for the Spurs but beyond terrible for the Pelicans.

Re: Don't Kill Me: SAS/OKC/NOLA (Aldridge to OKC)
main issues I see.
1. Holiday is UFA this offseason. So this could just be a 30 game rental which wouldn't work.
2. Holiday misses a lot of time due to injuries
3. This creates problems retaining our other free agents. Simmons, Dedmon, Lee, Mills. We wouldn't be able to retain them and Holidays cap hold. Dedmon is more valuable to us than Holiday as we need his defense and rebounding and have no one that can replace what he brings. We'd also have no way clear way to add a replacement.
4. Dejounte Murray has been very impressive. I don't see us signing a PG for what Holiday will likely get to play in front of Dejounte for years to come.
5. Theres no way we trade Tony Parker. Which would give us a lot of cap dedicated to PGs if we resigned Holiday.
6. Sabonis looks like less developed less versatile version of Bertans. We already have Bertans under contract.
Don't see this working for the Spurs. Maybe send that value to another team and get us a high draft pick. Or get us Jimmy Butler, Avery Bradley, Middleton, Fournier, Rodney Hood type SG who can help replace Manu(assuming he retires after this year) and provide defense and a 4 who can play defense.
Favors(if health checks out) + Hood for LMA
Avery Bradley + Amir Johnson + 2018 BKN pick for LMA
Jimmy Butler + Taj for LMA + Green.
Middleton + Brogdon + Hibbert for LMA + Simmons
make the most sense to me from a Spurs perspective

OK, gonna lock this one up. Still think personally Kanter has some value and was hoping to find a framework for it, scrap that. If anyone wants to reopen let me know.
