Ernie is going window-shopping looking at all the overpriced goods of struggling stores. He's the only person in the entire mall. Ernie understands that if he comes back in a week, everything will be cheaper.
Ernie walks out of the mall.

I feel like you haven't watched Ernest Grunfeld's shopping history. He always wants to be the first in line because a shirt in the bag is worth two half-price shirts on the shelf. He never wants to even chance someone else grabbing his favorite color of hoodie before he can pick it up himself, even if that means paying 120% of retail to an overeager clerk. And he never wants to come back in a week - he has a full slate of golf games scheduled for then, thank you very much. He wraps up his shopping in record time, then pulls out his double-parked handicap spot with a gleaming smile on his face, knowing that his BFF Ted will love everything he bought.

But before he was a struggling junkie about to lose his job. He was desperate for some false reassurance. Now he's got all the leverage and all the positive vibrations.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXII
I only see two trade scenarios for Ibaka.
1. We swap Mahinmi straight up for Ibaka. It would be a 30-game rental for us, but Ibaka is an upgrade over Mahinmi, and it gets us out of Mahinmi's long term deal, helping us avoid the luxtax. In this scenario, we have no intention of resigning Ibaka so it makes no sense for us to include any future picks, other than maybe a 2nd rounder. I have to assume Orlando can do better than that though.
2. We trade Mahinmi and a 2017 pick for Ibaka, but only under the pretense that Ted is willing to pay a significant luxtax penalty. As it stands now, we project to be maybe $2M over the luxtax. This deal frees up another $18M in cap room (Mahinmi's $16.6M deal plus the pick) to devote to Ibaka's new contract. His new contract might be $25M or so, so that would put us about $9M over the luxtax. Maybe a 3-way is worked out where we give Jason Smith away for raw cap space to reduce that penalty. Then we'd be more like $4M over the luxtax with the following team:
PG Wall/Sato
SG Beal/McClellan
SF Porter/Oubre
PF Ibaka/Morris
C Gortat/Ibaka
That's pretty damn good.
EDIT: On second thought, I'm not interested. Ibaka doesn't really look to be that good anymore. His box score numbers are lousy, though he has always had a better on-the-court impact that his box score suggests. However, this year, even his RPM numbers look pretty weak. It's hard to find a statistical rationale to prove that he is better than Morris.
Of course, that doesn't account for the John Wall effect. He does shoot well from 3-point range and Wall will get him more looks.

Hi guys brand new to the forum
I am just curious as to why people are so high on Oubre He's only averaging around 6 points a game and the last 2 games total he has a whopping 1 point combined
Please keep in mind I live near Charlotte NC and I don't get to see them much so I just go by stats and they're not very good

I rarely post on another teams trade thread but I just felt compelled to point out that I with how much money the Magic already have invested at center with Biyombo and Vucevic I really don't see much chance that they'd take Mahinmi in a trade unless one of them are going out at the same time.

Good point.
It's just that the Wizards couldn't possibly absorb his salary without sending Mahinmi out in the deal. It's probably another good reason to assume that no WAS/ORL deal involving Ibaka is realistically possible.

Yeah when Washington's name came up in the trade rumors that was the conclusion I came to, which is somewhat disappointing because the Wizards are one of the only teams I kind of like that were linked to him and since I still like Ibaka I would prefer him on a team I also kind of like.

It's not gonna show in the stats, but Oubre at 21yo is probably the team's most talented perimeter defender. He has prototypical size & athleticism for a wing (6'7 with a crazy 7'2 wingspan, same as Kawhi Leonard iirc), very quick hands/feet and he brings a lot defensively with his ability to guard multiple positions.
His 3pt shot is inconsistent, which to my eye is because he doesn't always remember to have his feet set before shooting. But from the legs up, his shot mechanics are pure and he's shown the potential to become a high-level 3&d guy ala Trevor Ariza, if not even better. He's shown flashes of being able to do some dangerous stuff off the dribble and get to the basket/draw fouls, but needs a lot of polishing before his offense catches up with his defense (he's also clearly not strong enough yet to finish at the rim on a regular basis).
KO has been part of Washington's most effective lineups, which is a credit to Brooks finding out how to utilize him and get the most out of him. People aren't saying he's a future MVP or anything (well most of us aren't saying that), but Oubre is producing on a rookie contract and clearly a high upside core player we wouldn't wanna trade:

Denver isn't that stupid to take low-ball offer...get real !!
i mean thats what they are worth in this market from that team. Barton is not worth an unprotected first on his own, toss in nurkic or hernengomez sure maybe. You can over value your guys all you want and maybe someone will pay that for them at the deadline maybe. Maybe its even the wizards that over pay for them. But I am evaluating them are the market as I can see it and the trades that have been made or not made so far, and on their abilities, age and contracts, sure potential can factor in to it, if will barton or nurkic go for an unprotected 2017 pick on their own with a valuable non filler contract in the trade I will grill my hat in soy sauce, video tape me eating it post in on youtube and post it right here.

Ok fair enough I'm just trying to figure out ways E.G. Can improve the bench
With the guys that are there now I'm not sure the Wiz can make a deep playoff run as the starters will be exhausted

i would not be shocked to see biyombo moved to chicago if they strike out on Okafur, something like rondo and portis or rondo and McDurmett, I could see orlando snatching that up. Or seapping bad deals to menhpis and trading BIyombo and a filler contract to the griss for parsons and a pick.
Now I know vogel loves mahinmi so I would love to do an ibaka for mahinmi and a second a 2018 or 2019 first if you want to toss us Henzonja, hell I would do mahinmi and a second for jeff green and Zimmerman stright up and you can move Ibaka else where. but that way you get a serviceable back up center and a second for jeff green.

Now that you guys see how little Nurkic went for, will people STOP posting fair trades. Draft picks are worth so much, and players are worth little to none. Everything needs to be a low-ball because that's the state of the market right now.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXII
I don't want to go after Ibaka, who well might be 30+ and about to be massively overpaid, but I'd be careful of drawing too much from poor offensive efficiency stats for anyone on that team.
They're 28th or 29th in the league in offensive efficiency depending on who's stats you use and collectively 'achieve' an offensive rating that's about equivalent to Trey Burke.
I suspect almost everyone on that team would be more efficient elsewhere if they had some actual stars to draw attention and create easier opportunities (not to mention team morale is probably near a 'fishing village beneath erupting volcano' level by now).
Still, I'd stay away from Ibaka.

I could see us being willing to trade for Mahinmi if it's true that Vogel really likes him and we move Vucevic or Biyombo (most likely Biyombo since I think a Biyombo/Vucevic or Mahinmi/Vucevic combo at C would be more complementary than Biyombo/Mahinmi). However, until one of those get moved I just don't see the point in speculating about because I don't think the Magic would tie up 45 million in cap space at the center position when we really need help on the wing.
