Do you see Brandon Roy returning to the nba...

Post#1 » by beach house » Wed Feb 15, 2017 11:34 pm

...in a coaching capacity?

i found this on reddit and this is great
http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/index.ssf/2017/02/brandon_roy_arrives_as_coach.html

notes:

- roy took a 3-18 team to 22-0 in his first year
- roys team, nathan hale, is now a top 10 ranked high school program (again 3-18 last year)
- like chino hills, nathan hale has something of a lineage thing with star player michael porter jr and his little brother jontay
- the porters and five other players transferred to nathan hale after roy signed on as coach (likely due at least in part to roy's high profile status)
- apparently its not just the talent keeping nathan hale on top, roy is straight outcoaching his opponents, shutting down opposing runs and making smart adjustments.

again, highschool ball does not have the highest standard of coaching, especially in todays aau era, but i still think its impressive regardless. cant be any worse than kidd

Roy had a lot of natural feel for the game, and he was supremely talented. Presumably that talent and feel can translate into a more academic knowledge of basketball that can then be applied. I don't see why he couldn't one day be a coach in the NBA, and it's, no kidding, pretty great to read about him and his success coaching at the high school level.

If only he could have had been healthy and have cartilage in his knees :(

It would be awesome if Roy could make it back to the NBA as a coach and be successful. He was on his way to being an MVP candidate before all the injuries.

It is a big jump from coaching in high school to the nba but I wouldn't put it past him. He is a very likeable guy I could see him do really well at the college level with recruiting.

Roy could be an NBA coach someday. He's got a great feel for the game and he's a good leader. That's a long way from where he is today, though.

I think he might be a better college coach. He'd be a monster recruiter.

No. You can't use the previous season's record compared to this year's. The amount of talent that transferred in makes it pretty dumb to try and compare. Michael Porter is arguably one of the best players in high school. His brother is also another really good prospect. When you have a stud like Porter in high school you're going to win the majority of your games. Big difference between coaching high school and NBA, hell it's a big jump bergen high school and college. Let's wait and see if a college team would give him a chance first.

If anything. Brandon Roy's BBIQ was high. He also had a good feel for the game, so none of this surprises me. I think he should move to college basketball... a lot of young guys would definitely want to play for him.

I'd love to see it. I hated my cats playing against him in college. Hate seeing such a bright future ruined by injuries.

I'd rather have him then Fred! Our owner only likes hiring rookie (i.e. Minimum wage) coaches, and Paxson loved him heading into the 06 draft and then suddenly moved away from it (it was later reported our training staff red flagged his knees)

Bring him aboard

Absolutely he can just cherrypick....get Vivek on the line

For sure as a coach. He should be an assistant.

Thought this was going to be about him playing in that BIG3 league. Which I think he probably could, I'm sure his knees could handle a half court game once a week? At least I hope :S

I would love to see him back in the NBA in some capacity.

What a tremendous player he was that was cruelly struck down in his prime.

Has the basketball iq. But the situation has to be right. He was already a leader so there's no doubt he could do that. But a couple of coaching mistakes can cost you your spot nowadays
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

I mean...if Kidd and Fisher can get coaching gigs I don't see why Roy can't.
