How do we feel about this year's Spurs chance to beat the Dubs?

Post#1 » by Froob » Thu Feb 16, 2017 9:44 pm

Last year although they didn't get to play the Dubs in the playoffs they were clearly very overmatched, didn't have the offense to keep up. This season I haven't got to see them play much but the stats show Danny Green has had a big bounce back season and Kawhi is as good as ever.

What's the general opinion on them this season, could they muster the offense to take down the Dubs? I've been thinking last few weeks that it was really only Cleveland and Houston (if they got really hot) that could take down the Dubs but haven't taken into account what improvements the Spurs may have made.

I'd probably give them a 20% chance. That's probably being generous all things considered. GS is just too stacked.

But I'd love to see a 7 game series though, indubitably :P

Spurs crushed the Warriors in their only Bay Area meeting. Pop will "rest " key players in the games in San Antonio. The Warriors have improved since the beginning of the season. LMA and Gasol are not playing as well plus the Spurs are older.

If the two teams played 10 times GS should win 6 of the times. SA if it does not get the #1 seed will have a tougher road to the Conference finals. The 8 seed in the West may be under .500.

Spurs need to make a move. Relative to last year, they're closer to the Clippers category now, except with better coaching.

How Houston would have a better chance to beat GS than the Spurs? I fail to see it. A team that relies on 3p shooting against a team with the 3 best shooters in the NBA.

It's GS's title to lose but i don't see a team with a better chance to beat GS than SA, but GS is clearly the favorite against anyone, including Cleveland who does not look as good as last season.

as much as I'd like to see it, nothing Spurs can do if Dubs are firing on all cylinders

This reminds me of of the 2000-2002 spurs during a time when the Lakers were just a tier ahead

For them to win 2-3 of the following have to happen
Tony Parker has a prime resurgence
Pau Gasol has a prime resurgence
LMA reverts to 2014 Houston levels.
Curry declines his play in the post-season
Durant has a 2016 Mavericks-like series

I only have faith in the Spurs and Cavs to take down Golden State.

If they got hotter than the Dubs. Unlikely, but a small chance it could happen.

Very little chance in a 7 game series. I'm the biggest Spurs fan there is but our interior defense has been bad this year, we struggle on cuts, screens and against a stacked, great passing and unselfish team like GSW we will find it tough.

We also might be bigger but those bigs don't get much inside.

In saying that, we defend the three well and when everything is working our offense can be flawless. Add to that, the first player we've had in a long time to just give the ball and get the hell out of the way in Kawhi when our offense is struggling, we do have A chance.

I feel like Tony "Porker" Parker has been bad in the playoffs for a few years now. Manu has been pretty bad too hasn't he?

Not great.

What could be their only advantage over the Warriors in Kawhi, would be the 2nd best SF in the series.

I don't like Parker and Gasol against the Warriors either. And LMA would struggle to guard anyone in the Warriors death lineup. They would have to sit Parker and Gasol to have a chance IMO.

Not good, but certainly possible.

Until I see a playoff Warriors team that matches or comes close to matching their regular season production (they haven't the past two years), I'm giving top contenders a chance to knock them out in the playoffs. Not a good chance, but it's there.

They would need a Warrior injury or to finagle another guard at the deadline imo.

Slim to none.

The Warriors and Durant will be playing with a chip on their shoulders this post season. They're gonna win it all. Maybe next season when they aren't as hungry.

The Spurs are fools' gold. They're gonna finish with another 60 win season but lose in the 2nd round or WCF. They just don't have any killer instinct players to make it out of the West. They literally lost to the Thunder last year because they couldn't keep Westbrook and Kanter off the offensive boards.

0%. Spurs wont be legit contenders until they replace Tony Parker with another All Star caliber pg and LA plays like he has a pair.

I think it is highly unlikely... they don't have the legs to win over a 7 game series.

As long as Parker, LMA, and Pau are playing big minutes they have a fairly small chance
