I don't think a player goes from second fiddle to MVP caliber and posting a 30 per season has a poor work ethic...

He had scoliosis and wasn't even supposed to play pro-ball as long as he did.

He admits it. He has interviews saying that the scoliosis didn't even bother him during his first 10 years in the NBA. Heck, Usain Bolt has scoliosis.

I don't doubt he worked hard to become pro and a star. But what separates guys with similar talent is work ethic during a long period of time. That's what separates guys like T-Mac and Kobe. Kobe did it for 20 years dealing with several types of injuries. T-Mac peaked at the age of 23 and 6 years later he was already done.

does work ethic account for the shoulder/knee issues he played through? the knee issue i referenced was one he came back early from to play in the post season..ended up getting surgery again and he was never the same since. tmac also peaked in houston where he became a complete player he wasnt 23 at any point there.

Wonder if OKC knew something we didnt when trading him last year...

Major injuries.

I'd say coming out of high school, skipping college, not getting the proper treatment on his knees to preserve them

His game was so explosive back then. Durant is who T-Mac always wanted to be

Ibakas best season statistically (13-14) per 36:
16.6/9.6/3.0 BLK on 53.6 FG % and 38.3 3PT % on 0.8 attempts

Ibaka this year with ORL per 36:
17.8/8.0/1.9 BLK on 48.8 FG % but 38.8 3PT % on 3.8 attempts

Where exactly has he declined?

He actually had just one down year (that was last season) and has gotten a little more perimeter oriented, that's about it.

Based on the information you provided, he's declined in blocks, FG% and rebounds. Also his free throw rate, offensive rebounding % and win shares are all down, among others.

He's clearly declined. Whether that's because he's secretly a senior citizen though, I doubt any of us will know.

Pure rebounds per game and and offensive rebounding percentage is down, but a lot of that is because of his role. His defensive rebounding is around the same level as previous seasons.

Offensively he might be having his best season, but he is not the defensive force that he used to be. His block numbers are down, but that would be natural even if he is in his late 20's. Purely athletically I think the peak is a bit earlier than the typical 26-29 prime years. Ibaka also seem less mobile and haven't really improved Orlando's defence when he's on the floor.

There have certainly been speculations on Ilyasovas age, even accusations at the FIBA level. Haven't heard anything about Kanter, do you have any reason to doubt his age?

He asked ESPN to shoot a documentary about his early years in Congo (Son of the Congo). If he had really lied about his age, why the hell would he do that?

There were some nights this season where he looked super athletic. On some nights he looked like he could barely run. I think it's injuries, not age.

I guy on my team played against ibaka when they were both still in spain. He says that ibaka is 4 years older
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Usually those speculations are about players born outside of Turkey and often about their ethnicity

We did have these same exact talks about Yi Jiliang. It wasn't baseless because in China faking birth information is practically a national sport. Athletes misrepresenting their age is unfortunately becoming more and more common at all levels.

How come there's no option in the poll for 24-26?

Yeah, Ilyasova is supposed to be from Uzbekistan and 3 years older than his official age.
Kanter though is born in Switzerland and there is no doubt about his papers as far as I know.

Bucks has had a history of drafting players older than listed. Yi Jianlian is 3 years older. Ilyasova is 3 years older. Thon Maker is 4 years older.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ibaka was a few years older than his actual age. It is popular and easy to fake your age in parts of Asia and Africa.

For him, It's well known in Europa that he's older than his "legal" birthdate

Raptors didn't give up a lot for him I'm not worried. I hated ross as a player. One day he looks like a future all star next day he looks like a d leaguer and we already have another first round pick
