No interest in DeMacus Cousins. We have one of the best starting fives in the NBA. Why f-ck with the chemistry with a talented headcase, we'll lead the league in techs. Great.

Yeah, I'd do that too. It might make us a bit worse this season, just because of the chemistry disruption and the loss of depth. But the real key is that exchanging Gortat for Cousins gives us a good 6-7 year window of opportunity. That's a real talented starting 5, with everyone aged 27 or younger.
We would probably have to follow up by trying to give away Mahinmi in the summer so we can devote his salary to rounding out our depth.
Yep it gives us very big window to legitimately chase rings. Extend Cousins in the off-season. Re-sign Porter. Hopefully rebuild Mahinmi's value a bit and deal him for depth. Re-sign Wall in two years.
I think we'd be fine this season too. Wall & Morris would sacrifice some shots for Cousins. Cousins when locked in is a better defender. I think Cousins would be over the moon at playing for a winner for the first time in his professional career. The only setback is losing the defensive versatility of Oubre off the bench. Maybe packaging Smith & a 2nd can get us a wing defender off the bench.

"Every day at work in Sacramento -- every practice, every play, every film session, every huddle -- has the potential to be a collective exercise in managing Cousins' emotional fiber, and the NBA season is simply too taxing for a team to take that on."
I think this is a problem.
Not saying Cousins is a choirboy but Sacramento is currently a sh*tstain in the fabric of professional basketball. Just look at the way ownership has ran that team into the ground. Their best draft pick since Cousins 7 years ago was Isaiah Thomas who they let go in free agency a few years back to sign "a real point guard" in Darren Collison. Cousins seems intently loyal to a fault but he's needed a change of scenery for years.

What's the end goal here? To make a nice playoff run only to have LeBron sweat through a series so he can pat them on the butt after a tough 6 game series and say 'man you guys have us all we could handle'? I guess that's a series Wizards fans can remember for years while the rest of the sports world forgets about it in a week.

It's one of those things that even if it COMPLETELY blew up in our faces 3 years down the road, I could never ever fault the franchise for going for it.
You don't hesitate when a player like that comes available. All bets are off under those circumstances.

Well, it had better enable "a legitimate run" immediately. Because, at least at first glance, in some other ways it looks like it would leave us in a difficult position.
We'd have @ $80m in 4 players next year -- Beal, Porter (maxed), Wall & Cousins. Plus @ $23m in Morris, Smith, Satoransky & Nicholson. How much help that 2d group delivers is at least open to question. We'd have no one on a rookie contract & no picks for a couple of years.
In essence, for the delta you see between Gortat & Cousins, we'd have given up Oubre & 2 R1 picks, & we'd have taken on a potentially problematic salary situation.
Cousins is a tremendous talent -- no one would argue with that. If he put up numbers that reflected that talent I'd be in favor of this deal. As it is, I'd view it as a tremendous risk.

Yes, the Kings franchise is a complete joke, they haven't drafted anyone worthwhile (aside from IT). However, you've got to understand that it's not a binary situation. Cousins is at fault as well. It's more of a 60% Owner's fault, 40% Boogie's fault, then 100% Owner's fault, 0% Boogie's fault.

Well your view on Cousins' impact as a player in the past has differed greatly than mine. I see him as one of the best Cs in the game. You don't. So we're not likely to see eye to eye on this. However I believe you can have an elite championship quality team if you have 4-5 guys playing at a really high level and a non-descript bench. Some of those Kobe/Shaq teams were incredibly top heavy. I think a good comparison for us with Cousins would be Boston with the big 3 of KG, Pierce & Allen. The Lakers with Kobe & Gasol weren't very deep. Ditto for the Heat team with Wade & Shaq.

Cousins has played 2 minutes tonight.
My guess is he's going to Portland.

I don't think it even have anything to do with his issues either, I think it has everything to do with risk reward.
How much of an upgrade over gortat is he really. Blocks not much, rebounds not much, defence a litte, age wise 6 years, scoring sure, attitude, downgrade by a mile. So we are giving up gortat one of the best centers in the east this year, Porter one of the best 3 men in the league this year and two first round picks, for a modest upgrade at center that we don't need? No, you are getting caught up in a name and a perception. Now if you offer 3 firsts 2 seconds and mahinmi, maybe House and Burke. Sure you are double mortgaging the farm to make a playoff run this year but **** it. Do that, cuz adding DC over mahinmi and keeping gortat for the bench is a massive out of this world probably makes us the best team in the league upgrade. But losing gortat and porter. Naw that does not help us beat the cavs and it does not give us the best anything. We just have a big yet talented anger issues instead of one of the best vet centers and best young wings in the league.

Cousins is a man child. Seriously, he has the emotional development of a 15 year old. He's as talented as anyone in the league but you still can't deal with him. You need grown ups to win a title.

I'd love to know what statistics were involved calculating the 60/40 split.
Nearly all of the advanced statistics say Cousins has and is playing at a very high level. I don't know how Cousins is supposed to carry a roster devoid of talent to be anything better than what they are now.
The best stretch the Kings have had was when they had Cousins, Thomas & Gay. They were a .500 team when those guys were on the floor together but they were so set on finding the textbook version of a PG they passed on keeping the 2nd best player on their roster to sign a mediocre backup PG as their starter. That's their front office in a nutshell. The same front office that went nuts over drafting Nik Stauskas only to include a 1st round pick to dump him and some marginal salary a year later. Yet somehow Cousins deserves a lot of the blame here?

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXII
Its a tough situation, if Sac are truly done with Cousins, then it makes trading for him a possible chance. But do we take that chance considering our play in 2017? We were all clamouring for a trade in December, Cousins was always top of people's lists to turn this team around, and it was usually Beal OR Porter going out. I wouldnt trade either of them for Cousins now.
And as a team we HAVE turned it around, so this is a completely different debate to the ones we had in December. Instead of "We need to trade for Cousins to become a winning franchise", its now "We need to trade for Cousins to put our winning franchise into championship contender status."
I agree with others, I don't think the premise that he makes us a title contender is all that solid. And what if we lose Porter because Ted won't pay to keep him on the team? That can't happen. You might as well include him in the deal if it looks like Ted won't pay, and I think most would agree Porter for Cousins is a bad trade.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Per Chris Mannix, Kings want young players, picks, and expiring. We can't offer that.
I think he goes to Phoenix (who have the cap space to absorb a boogie deal).
Chriss+Len+Warren+2017 1st+2018 Miami 1st is a darn strong offer.

Portland is my bet, They can offer Crabe, Leonard, and 3 2017 picks for DC and the temple as part of the deal. They get DC saves a little cash and they dont sell the farm, just one year of a lot of picks. the kings get two young guys and 3 picks and ditch temple.

Those late picks are nothing (Cavs & Memphis will be in the 20s, while Portland (with Boogie) would be in the 10-15 range. Plus, Crabbe has a horrible deal.
What about Boogie for Jimmy+Bulls pick?
