Kirk Cousins - QB - Redskins

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah "would not be shocked at all" if the Redskins and 49ers agree to a trade involving Kirk Cousins at the Combine.

Jeremiah isn't a typical Rotoworld source on the NFL side, but with draft season upon us, he has an ear to the ground and talks with numerous personnel people. He believes there's a "better than 50 percent" chance Cousins isn't a 2017 Redskin, and a deal sending Cousins to San Francisco, possibly along with the Redskins' No. 17 overall pick, in exchange for the 49ers' No. 2 overall pick is in the cards. Further, Jeremiah reports the Redskins still aren't sold on Cousins long-term. Washington seems intent on bungling an offense that had become one of the best in the league. Cousins would be a massive get for the rebuilding Niners.

I would do a backflip if we pulled this off. Definitely too good to be true.

It would probably require something a little more like a 4th rounder but I don't see the deal being too good to be true.

The Redskins basically have very little leverage in all of this and the 9ers aren't going to pay a high price for a QB that they could realistically get as a FA next year. So if you're the Redskins would you take the #2 overall pick or an extra 3rd round comp pick in 2019?

Cousins won't have the benefit of a pretty good WR corps and TE if he came to the 49ers this year.

I don't think there's any doubt that we upgrade the WR position in the offseason

Kirk Cousins - QB - Redskins

ESPN's John Keim reports the 49ers are the only team Kirk Cousins is willing to sign a long-term contract with "right now."

Keim adds Washington will likely try to trade Cousins as there is a slim chance the two sides work out a deal, but this report puts a serious dent in his trade market. Teams are not going to give up any significant trade chips without assurances Cousins will agree to a long-term deal when he gets there, and it seems clear the quarterback's ultimate goal is to reunite with old OC and new 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan in 2018 if not sooner. Washington has bungled this situation from the start, and it does not look like it will get any better anytime soon.

Kirk has proven to be a top 10 QB, Jimmy G hasn't.

I would only trade the #2 for Kirk if we also got the #17 pick. However, from my understanding of the situation, Washington just lost all of the leverage that they might of had. If I'm reading this correctly, we moving away from the 1st round status

ok but a sizeable contract to add as well. Similar to Jimmy G(something i was against)....

use the #2 for an elite/talented playmaker at the skill positions. or trade a minor few down to gain more picks.

Who's around the 17 range should we drop?

Or they could sign him without giving up any assets next year.

If Kirk signs the tag ASAP does that kill any extension talks? Or can he sign this and still agree to a new extension?

Who's to say we get Cousins next year if he hits free agency? I'm sure there would be more than a few teams after him.

Media is assuming because Cousins got the exclusive tag it means he's staying put when it really doesn't change anything at all. Skins were always going to put the exclusive tag on him because they still hope to re-sign him long term and giving him the non-exclusive tag allowing him to negotiate with other teams would cripple their chances of resigning him and could cripple the chances to trade him as well. The 9ers could theoretically work out a handshake deal on a contract for when he hits FA and they would definitely not trade for him then.

Also the Skins need to sell the idea to other teams that they want to keep Cousins and won't give him away and the non-exclusive tag signals to other teams that you really are out to get something for him.

True but the odds on favorites would easily be the 9ers.

Cousins would want to play for Shanahan and the 9ers would give him the contract he wants so it's hard to see him winding up elsewhere unless a team just blows him away with a huge offer that's higher than everyone else's.
