Matthews was slashed on that breakaway. Anyway, can't say how much I hate the NHL's OT system. The fans "love it" is a weak justification. If they settled the games by having two goons punch it out at centre ice, the fans would love that, too  There's a good chance the leafs will miss the playoffs despite being top 11 in goal differential because they've played so many OT games and been horrendous in the shootout. How is that good for the health of the sport?

I think 3 on 3 is great. Entertaining to watch and less of a crapshoot then the shootout.

Shootout should be scrapped. Maybe make 3 on 3 longer.

5 on 5, but remove the goalies from the nets. Let the teams fight it out for puck possession and faceoffs and hail mary shots at empty nets and defensemen/forwards trying to pretend to be goalies.

just extend 3v3 to 10 minutes and if that doesnt solve it then sudden death shootout

So Morgan Reilly is bad? I haven't watched as many games this year. His stats look awful, like the worst +/- in the league and pretty mediocre goals/points for a D man known for offense

He has talent. But he has been overrated by Leafs fans these past 2 years. (well, Leafs players are always overrated, except Marner and Matthews who do live up to their hype)

I think he's struggling in the top pairing role. COnstantly going up against the best. He's not a 1dman, but thats how he's being used. I think he can there one day, will just take time.

Not to mention he had a high ankle sprain a month or so ago, so that might still be bothering him.

Yep. He's playing through a high ankle sprain, which is limiting him. It most likely won't heal until the offseason.

Also, +/- is an obsolete stat. He plays against the top lines in the league, and his defensive partners haven't really been first line material.

Having said that, no, he hasn't had a good season, unfortunately. May not develop into that #1 D we were hoping for.

My main beef is more with the way points are awarded vs the 3 vs 3/Shootout. They need to go to 3 points for Regulation Wins.

The other way to go is eliminate the loser point, eliminate the shootout and play 3 vs 3 till you have a winner.

Shootouts basically render the pointless the idea of "teams". I agree that the shootout should be eliminated. What's the point of a team sport if 1/4 of all your games end in 1 on 1 skill/luck contests? Even if we were benefiting from them I'd still want to get rid of them.

So i have family in Calgary who were continuing the usual ragging on the Leafs, change ownership, they haven't won in 50 years and all that stuff blah blah blah. These are the types of Leafs/Toronto haters that won't be objective and acknowledge the changes Shanny has put in or that Rogers/Bell have actually committed to all the teams. They just still hear MLSE is the owner of the Leafs and think it's the same stuff.

Anyways, made a bet with one family member. If at any point the Flames make the Stanley Cup Finals, i'd buy him a pair of tickets to the first home game of the finals and if the Leafs make it, he'd have to buy me a pair.

Need to at least get a point in tampa. Huge game.

Glad the young guys get to go through this type of pressure and intense play.

Return to Toronto Maple Leafs
