Re: Dennis Smith Jr
I think Dennis Smith is a great example to how good these recruits have lived up to their hype. DSJ put up 18/4/6 on 46/37/71 and a 57 TS%. He was also 2nd team All-ACC and ACC freshman of the year over guys like Tatum and Isaac. Hes had that season and many people are kind of sour on him. I get his attitude has not been great but I still think his game is better suited for the NBA than one year in college.

Talent will always win out and it's not like he killed somebody but taking yourself out of a game.giving up at times.being very moody etc
Gotta ask yourself if your a gm is this guy the next Cousins. A very good player but divisive

I see him more and more as basically equal with Fultz and don't quite get why the hype hasn't been there. People seem so sold on Fultz when he's had a similar season to DSJ and when he has as many causes for concern.Duke4life831 wrote:I think Dennis Smith is a great example to how good these recruits have lived up to their hype. DSJ's size worries me but Smith's explosiveness seems to make up for it. The attitude stuff seems overblown at this point (though I guess Fultz's apparent humility is a bonus for his stock). Curious to see if perceptions change once people aren't reading headlines any more and are just looking at the tape and trying to project how well these folks will do at the next level.

Before the season started I thought Smith has head and shoulders above the other PGs in the class. I didn't expect Lonzo to do what he did to this extent as I had questions like anyone else. I still think talent wise and game translation DSJ wins out. He brings everything to the table for today's league.

NC State is a bigger dumpster fire than Washington.
People need to cut DSJ some slack. DSJ is not in contention for #1, but no reason why he can't go #3-6 easily.

Just wish Dennis Smith played down hill more. He's not a rangy / long strider going to the basket but certainly has the quickness but he seems content wasting dribbles going nowhere rather than recognizing and attacking when he has a speed/athleticism advantage.
That could obviously change in the NBA and probably will, but it's something that irks me about him.

He played too aware of the space he did or didn't have at this level like he didn't trust his burst through certain openings. I don't see that being an issue in the league though.

Ya I had him #1 before the season and throughout most of the season. I was high on Ball but I didn't think he could keep up this level of play all year, I was expecting for him to drop off in conference play but that never happened. I think I have Ball #1 right now.
But with DSJ I still think he might become the best player in this class and if it isn't close I wouldn't be surprised. He has elite athleticism, can shoot and I like his potential with his shot and runs the PnR better than anyone. I still think if you're dreaming of the prefect PG in today's NBA DSJ is pretty damn close to what I would imagine.

Do not worry. He ain't falling to the Knicks. With all the problems He will go top 5--6 easily. Philly or Orlando are picking him 100%.

I actually think its possible that he does endup in NY if not Sac. NYK in particular would be his best possible fit for both him and the Knicks

Knicks have a good shot at ending up 6, only a game out of that spot now (though I'd bet they go more 7-9).
Also, paulbball, the last 4 or 5 posts were people saying DSJ should be in the mix for #1. Why do you think that's out of the question?

I'd prefer less attitude and taller. I agree with you that he's going to be an electric NBA player with all the spacing. He's going to be a star.

I think Ball is on a different level as a prospect. DSJ's knee scares me.

He hasn't proven healthy enough for you this season?

and really, if you think about it, he's probably going to be even more explosive the farther that surgery gets in the rear view mirror. He legit has D Rose type athleticism. Who has more right now in the league at PG? Westbrook? Who else?

I could see DSJ potentially slipping below Isaac and/or Tatum when it's all said and done, but I still have him 4th, and pretty definitively at that.

Yeah. Thus far I think Fultz, Ball and Jackson are solidly ahead of the next trio - DSJ, Tatum and Isaac. Then guys like Ntilikina, Markkanen, Monk, Williams and Bridges are waiting to make a case for themselves over one or more of the second trio while players of the second trio try to break into the top 3 with impressive torunaments and workouts. I doubt it's going to turn out that way but that's how I would see it at the moment.

37ish. Maybe 38 max. He's like Wade and Westbrook where he doesn't get very high but he explodes off the ground. Wade jumped a 35 and WB a 36.

I'd swap Ntilikina and Isaac but this seems about right. Fultz is still my consensus number one.

I'm his biggest fan, but I just don't think he has superb PG skills. Special players like Ball (or Paul or LeBron or less so Harden) makes their teams better. DSJ's PG talents needs a lot of work.
