I think it's an especially frightening time for him considering that his father died from a ruptured aneurysm while on the court. That precedent may prey on his mind considering he recently had a child.

Thanks for posting this SB. I had no idea. Here is an article about it. Batum was 2 years old and in the crowd when his dad died. I mean, how the hell could that not weigh on your mind as a pro basketball player if you're having severe migraines.

I must not have been paying much attention to Batum during the draft that year because I don't remember any of this stuff about his heart. Either that or my memory is worse than I remember. :-?

When Batum arrived in North America as a 19-year-old to try out for the '08 draft, he heard repeatedly from NBA coaches and executives about the death of Hank Gathers, who was 23 when he suffered a fatal heart attack during a 1990 college game in Los Angeles. "People were scared that the same thing could happen to me," Batum said.

Batum's pre-draft workout with Toronto was suspended when he failed to pass a stress test of his heart. "It became a huge story and it was 10 days before the draft, so I didn't have a lot of time to show that I'm good," he said. "So I did some different [medical] tests in San Antonio and Cleveland and I showed I was OK. It surprised me, like, why now, 10 days before the draft -- 10 days before my goal and my life dream? So that was a tough moment.''

Is there a chance (God forbid) it could be a tumor?

Definitely wish Nic the best. Hard to watch team without Nic out there, even if it's the bad Nic.

Stephanie said in the broadcast tonight that CT scan showed no serious problems and they hoped Batum will be back for Saturday.

That's great. Knowing our medical staff if there was something serious they'd probably try to fix it by letting the evil spirits out with some trepanning.

31.9% in the 4th quarter this year. 25% last night vs. Cavs. I know Batum isn't supposed to be an elite shooter, but these numbers are pitiful. At one point in the 4th quarter last night, he passed up a wide open 3 to throw down to Marvin down low, who was covered by 3 guys and got blocked. I don't know if it's a confidence problem or what? He's able to shoot pretty well when the game isn't on the line.

He has the 4th lowest 4th quarter fg% in the NBA for starters that have played > 25 games.

http://stats.nba.com/players/traditional/#!?sort=FG_PCT&dir=1&Season=2016-17&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&Period=4&StarterBench=Starters&CF=GP*G*25

The guys below him

Mbah a moute - 2.5 mil
Solomon Hill - 11.2 mil
Dorain Finney-Smith - 500k
Batum - 20.8 mil *and he takes 3x more shots than any of the above
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

The reasons listed above are frankly why I did not want to sign him to a big contract. I get that the league is all expensive deals, but Batum is the casual Frenchman that plays the "pretty game" on a good night, but is not the alpha dog shooter/scorer you pay that kind of money for.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
