What if each player got 5 healthy scratches to use a year, and they had to choose when they would be before the season starts, and they cannot be changed. Now this doesn't pertain to injuries, and I am sure players could get around it just making up something, but as far as healthy scratches go. Once the schedule comes out each player can choose 5 games to sit out and still be paid. This way they could choose back to backs, especially later in the year, and fans would have the information ahead of time to decide if they want to buy tickets or not.

Other than those 5, anytime a player sits when healthy they should be subject for a certain % of their yearly playing salary, as well as not receive a game check for that game.

I know this isn't a perfect idea, and the players/teams will exxagerate injuries at times etc, but it would help at least in the fans perspective not shelling out money to see a game who turns out to be a battle of the C squads.

This is not going to work.

If a player could choose 5 games to sit out a year, Brooklyn fans would go an entire season without seeing a star play.

Besides, how does LBJ know in October whether the Cavs are cruising to another conference title in March or desperately battling for a mid-seed because of massive injury problems?

Player shouldn't receive a game check for games they sit when healthy. Obviously, that will lead to a slew of other issues but that could be the basis for a plan going forward.

There is no "fix". As long as there's a players union, the league cannot enforce measures that dictate how teams manage their roster.

This, team will protect their own players and will get the doctor to issue a fake injury report, the NBA or the opposing team will not challenge that and put forth an independent specialist, it's a waste of money and time, the fans can but will they be able to afford an independent inquiry to prove the players health so they can recoup their money on being enetertained to the full vale of their purchase? , it will never change folks, you want to take action stop going into the games and stop buying NBA merchandise, that's your right to protest until they start taking notice, but that's wishful thinking, this thread is worthless.

Why would the players be punished for coaches and management's decisions anyways? Players probably don't get to decide to rest.

The hell you talking about, players often ask to be rested behind the scenes, those phantom injuries are just that. If teams are on back 2 backs, ahead in the standings, playing meaningless games, players can ask or volunteer to be rested, we just don't hear about it.

I dunno if Griffin is actually telling the truth but, he said LeBron doesn't want to sit out games. I'd imagine management is heavily involved in these decisions.

I know would never happen but players who decide to rest. Their that game salary should be refunded to the people who bought ticket, no matter it is lbj or zazza paculya

A family could spend close to $1000 on a night like this, only to have Lebron sit? That's pretty insulting if you ask me. Forget the W or L, its about watching the best players in the planet put on a great show.

That is exactly what I meant. However, I think you meant the Washington Generals (the team that would always lose to the Globetrotters)

LMAO yes, I don't know how I said the Capitals lol.

Lets add a few things.
Lakers decided to shut down for a season healthy player, A player they just signed a multimilion $ contract- mozgov.
Game sixers lakers was disgracefull for the fans. Lakers even managed to put a guy just signed on a 10 day contract to a starting lineup!
Hinkie got fired for what 1/3 of the teams are doing.
Like rest of the league are building like warriors, other teams are rebuilding like hinkie but even further.
Simons rule- player before entering nba can sign any endorsments which does not include personal performance bonusf for first playing year like ROTY

I really believe this is where Silver needs to start. A player making $20 million a year would effectively be giving up $250k if he sat out while healthy. I bet players would be less likely to sit out then.

Teams should be free to use or rest their players as they see fit within the collectively bargained parameters of the CBA. League should work to avoid any national TV game being part of a back to back and have the ability to flex games in and out of that slot if needed.

But the Cavs don't play well, at all, on the road in back to back situations. Even when everyone plays.

So technically, you're not getting the show you paid to see anyways. You're getting like 70% of LeBron and what seems like 50% of everyone else.

I just don't get this argument....do you want to see LeBron dunk on Gobert? Do you want to see the Cavs come into Utah and blow them out?

I know the answer is really "I want to see my team beat the defending champs at full strength", but that's kind of my point - the games in which LeBron and those guys rest - even if they play, the Cavs aren't "full strength". So given the options, take the win and move on.

I paid to see the Thunder play at the Cavs earlier this year. Had they decided to shut down Westbrook for the game, I would have had a great time watching the Cavs win by 40.

I think if a NBA player sits players the NBA should have to refund all tickets purchased. Some people pay good money to see these games and for people not to play the day of screws a lot of fans over. I think if the NBA automatically refunded the games by fining the players sitting that would be the best bet.

Because here in Milwaukee if you want to see a golden state game you are paying 4-5 times the ticket price. If you bought those tickets and found out the whole GSW team was sitting you would be livid.

Lebron is management, , don't kid yourself, If lebron thinks his team or a certain player is not performing up to task due to fatigue he will "ask" tyron Lue to sit them or him out. If lebron want to sit games, there's no way in hell Lue,Griffin or Gilbert can damn do about it, that's just the way it is.

I just remembered something, and correct me if I'm wrong.

Teams have insurance policies for their players, and if they miss a certain amount of time, the insurance company pays for that portion of time missed.

If Adam Silver decides to fine teams and a team chooses to fake an injury, this would be considered insurance fraud.

Now.. nothing would stop the cavs/warriors from starting their big 3, committing a foul, subbing them all out and then sitting them the rest of the game for 'fatigue'.

The Wiretap article about Silver is on the right track. Trying to stop teams from resting people is a losing cause. But saying, "Look, if you're going to rest people, just let us know in advance." That seems like a reasonable stance.

First, he should understand why and attempt to solve players/coaches/owners concerns. End back to backs without going down from 82 games.
