Asik for the chosen one?

Damn, he has three years left on his contract at that money? That's crazy. I think the Suns can do better.

That's funny because I wouldn't do Asik for Knight straight up.

Also, Asik only has 3m guaranteed his last year.

There is a way forward.

1) Sign Euroleague AllStars

3 pt shooting the last 3 years
Thomas Heurtel PG (1989) - 40%, 40%, 40%
Derrick Brown SF/PF (1987) - 44%, 37%, 46%
Anthony Randolph F/C (1989) - 39%, 34%, 39%
Joe Ragland PG (1989) - 40%, 38%. 38%

Improve: Depth, 3 point shooting, maturity, transition scoring, rim protection, length, rebounding and team oriented style of play (Euro Spurs ethos).

2) Doing the above allows you to create assets on reasonable contracts (possible trades) - also creates a 3 years window for improvement with the same unit.

3) Don't re-sign Holiday

4) Create Cap space and acquire a draft pick by trading Asik

5) Draft Sindarius Thornwell - Sign Anthony Brown

Heurtel/Ragland/Frazier
Thornwell/Crawford/Moore
Randolph/Hill/Brown
Davis/Brown
Cousins/Ajinca/Diallo

I'm not sure if he's in the C's long-term plans or not, but acquiring him could be a "Julian Wright for Marco Belinelli" deal all over again. We need to be searching over EVERY rock to replenish this team with quality.

Search every town, country, continent, planet and their moons. It won't be a "big easy" task, but we'll be better for it!

James Young is a decent gamble for the Pels to look into. I always felt he should've stayed another year in college. However since it was Kentucky that Young went to, there was no chance of that happening. Calipari believes in the farming and shipping system he does for his team.

Young needs more maturity from what I see. He needs to be around a team with a foundation where leadership and accountability is installed. And perhaps a chance to prove that he can contribute to a team in hopes that he can put it all together. Perhaps the Pels can be that team.

The Pelicans are in a tremendous position to do something special.

Trading Asik for cap space and a draft pick.
Draft Sindarius Thornwell.

I really hope this team tears up the league next season!

If I'm the Pelicans, I gotta let Holiday go because you need some cap space to work with.

Trade one of the bigs for 2-3 2nd-3rd tier wings

heurtel plays zero defense and a chemistry breaker. i would definitely go with milos teodosic. great passing talent and vision on the floor, leadership abilities and a decent three pointer.

How committed are the Pelicans to signing Holiday? And I was the Pelicans I'd trade contracts like Solomon Hill, Asik, Moore for longer contracts or higher value contracts with picks attached. I think surrounding Davidson, Cousins and potentially Holiday with a young supporting cast could push the Pelicans into a dynasty.

I can't get over how bad I want Heild playing with this current Pelicans roster, he'd be perfect! haha... after signing Holiday, I don't think Reddick or Hayward are possible targets financially. Melo would be pretty fantastic on this squad via trade, but I doubt he feels the same. A jimmy Butler or Paul George would really take this team to the next level, but the assets to acquire these guys just aren't there.

I think Rudy Gay would make some sense but ideally the Pels would find younger talent, with better 3 point shooting. Maybe a Jabari Parker or a more developed Denzel Valentine? I'm not sure, but this team is one or two guys away from being really really good!

How about Kyle Lowry > Holiday? That's a nice improvement, if you can drop one of those bad contacts (Asik, Hill, Moore) you can add some additional help in Gay, if you can drop two of them you could add Reddick! Now you're cookin haha!

I think they should bring Jrue back and form their identity on the defensive end. He's one of the better backcourt/perimeter defenders that the league has. He's been sort of a miscast on offense struggling to find his way alongside the bigman duo but I suspect reps will help them out. At first I wasn't keen to the idea of adding Euroleague guys but Anthony Randolph as a 3rd big could work well with Boogie and AD. Teodosic is like a poor man's Steve Nash stylistically. I don't think he'd be a bad edition but he may price himself out of range with what he's asking for.

Bring back Holiday and find a way to steal Reddick on the FA market and you're really cooking with fire I think

So....

1) Clear out cap space: send Asik, Ajinca, Pondexter along 2018 pick to some team willing to take on their salary (Nets,Kings?)

2) Renounce everybody possible: Crawford, Toupane, Cook

3) With the core of Frazier, Holiday, Moore, Hill, Davis, Cousins, Diallo there is 87 mil committed, or around 14,5 mil in cap space

4) FA: Mills on a deal starting at 14,5 mils - good overall PG who is deadly from long range

5) Re-sign Holiday over the cap.

- split MLE between McLemore and Holiday (4:3 and compensate Justin on Jrue's contract if necessary); sign two out of these for a minimum, depending on availability: J. Sullinger, M. Scott, T. Robinson, C. Wood

6) Draft: with #40 take one of forwards who falls there (Motley, Bell, Bolden, Brooks, Swanigan, Ojeleye, Kuzma) or J. Hart

Finally:

Mills-Holiday-Hill-Davis-Cousins

Frazier, Moore, Holiday, McLemore, Ojeleye, Scott, Diallo, Sullinger

Good team which fits well and has considerable depth and some potential upside. Wing rotation is decent (Hill, Holiday, McLemore, Moore) and depending on performance, there are assets to make moves after Jan 15. if SF needs to be upgraded.

Turn Ajinca into a first round pick and draft Sindarius Thorwell

Sign Epke Udoh to replace Ajinca.
Sign Derrick Brown to replace Cunningham

Heurtel, Ragland or Jerrells, and Frazier can hold down the point for now.

Heurtel/Ragland/Frazier
Thornwell/Moore/Crawford
Randolph/Hill
Davis/Diallo
Cousins/Udoh

When your bigs can pass, other players can dominate the post at times: see Randolph and Thornwell
Beat teams down with defense and dominate the paint.

Or

Keep Ajinca and sign Darius Miller

Heurtel/Ragland/Frazier
Miller/Moore/Crawford
Randolph/Hill/Pondexter
Davis/Diallo
Cousins/Ajinca

Darius Miller
3 pt shooting last 3 years: 51%, 47%, 40%
