Actually, I understood why the refs didn't make a call on that play. IMO, Millsap incidentally tripped Morris with his feet which caused Morris to fall down. It would have been hard to call a foul on Morris and I don't think Porter committed a foul. That being said I thought the Wizards could have been called for even more fouls on Millsap.

I haven't actually seen Millsap say it, so it seems like his comments were a bit ambiguous and might not have been that bad in the whiny department (or maybe they were; not sure):

"The difference in the game was we were playing basketball and they were playing MMA," Millsap told reporters, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "They were physical. When the game is like that, we have to match their physicality. But again, we've got to go get some moves and bring them back to the court."

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19173546/paul-millsap-atlanta-hawks-washington-wizards-were-playing-mma-game-1-victory

I'm getting mixed signals from that.

But, there this from Budenholzer, which I think has good perspective:

Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer credited Washington for attacking and putting the Hawks on their heels in the third quarter. The Wizards blew open the game with a 30-13 run to turn a 48-45 halftime deficit into a 75-61 lead.

"I thought they were more aggressive than us in the third quarter on both ends," Budenholzer said. "Usually the aggressor is rewarded. We have to remember that and take that forward."

That was about it. Wizards got called for a load of fouls, but they also beat the crap out of the hawks in literal terms, which wasn't a bad idea at all.

Looks like Oubre might have to get an x-ray on his knee

A knee X-ray doesn't sound good at all. The article implies he will have 2 days to "heal". What could be revealed on a positive X-ray that could heal in 2 days? This sucks!

Cot damn... Playoff Wall is a beast. Kief showed up. Porter showed the activity that I thought had been lacking (just need a few more open looks to get that shot down). Oubre was MFin Oubre. The hammer is back. Beal didn't play amazing but still quietly had 22 and got buckets when we needed.

I am very confident in this post season run if Wall keeps playing like that, or even kicks it into the gear above that one, because we know its there.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Ton of seats left for Game 2. The team has cut the box office price in the 400s from $35-$48 to $24-$38. Prices also cut in other parts of the arena.

Smith is fine. I was at the game. He was dancing around on the sidelines late in the game.

I'm grunching this thread, but is there a player who turns it up more for the playoffs than John Wall?

Actually, Wall has been pretty bad in the playoffs so far in his career. He has averaged just 16 points and 8.5 assists per 36 with a TS% around .470.

It was kind of surprising when they mentioned that Wall broke his playoff career high point total yesterday when he only had 28 points at the time.

Did any of those games come when he had a broke wrist? I think healthy #PlayoffsJohn is a thing...

I also think if we need 30 and 12 to win this series...we in trouble. I would much rather have 30 from beal and Wall keep getting them dimes and run down blocks.

I was actually talking more about effort level. Seemed like he was working harder than everyone on the court yesterday.

But I tend to shrug at those numbers anyway. He was injured for a couple of those games against Atlanta, and the first playoff year they were giving serious minutes to Drew Gooden and Al Harrington. Beyond that Wall was shooting ~20% from 3 for the first 18 playoff games of his career, which were all under Randy Wittman and the long-two offense.

Eh, I'm not too worried. The Wizards starting unit is so much better than the Hawks' starting five. All of the damage Atlanta did came with their bench unit. The worst case here is the starters have to log a ton of minutes to win this series, which is not ideal going forward, but I don't think it's reason to sound the alarms either.

He played game 5 and game 6 injured with a TS% of 44. I don't remember when he got hurt in game 1 against Atlanta.

Wall definitely turns up the defense in the playoffs. Offense has been mixed bag, as it was last night. For a lot of the first half he seemed to be forcing the action too much. He took 13 shots in the first half, several of them bad shots. But he obviously played well in the 2nd half.

When he plays like a pass first, shoot 2nd pg he is much more effective. When he starts shooting too much and/or playing out of control his effectiveness drops sharply.

Atlanta scored twice as many points at the foul line, Beal went 2-11 from 3 (his worst since that strange 1-21 slump) and we still won. Atlanta just doesn't have anyone who can hurt us on a consistent basis.
