Derrick is a scoring guard first and foremost, organizing, leading, stuff like that is not particularly his strength.

This is what Phil said.

Yet he acquired him. When he already had Melo, who wasn't exactly tearing it up as "Point Forward".

I guess Noah was going to run the offense but unfortunately got hurt :D

Interestingly, Rose was on the Knicks, yet Melo got the stripper pregnant. Knicks. Always unpredictable.

As time goes by, the best and smart players that last a long time in the NBA usually starts to add different weapons to the game. Rose is going to be like Iverson. A guy who thinks he can just milk his athleticism til the late 30s.

Well, his jumpshot which, has never been a strength was looking real sweet post after the all star break. That and the floater he added to his game so, there have been additions.

Nah.

If I'm running this team Rose isn't coming back and would never have been here in the first place.

I would not take Rose back even for free. We are simply better off giving the roster spot, minutes and shots to someone else.

In the right situation, he could probably be fine (off bench as a scoring option). Just no point here when we should be rebuilding

Phil blames Melo for everything but loves Rose....

Phil is senile.

Rose attacks the basket and takes high percentage shots. He knows his strengths and virtually took zero three pointers all season. (He attempted 60 this year vs. 150 and 271 the previous two seasons)

He's a high usage guard which Phil normally wouldn't like, but he makes quick decisions with the ball and he puts pressure on backtracking defenses.

Melo is a bit different. Scorer that plays at his own rhythm. Usually takes isolation mid range jumpshots because he's lost a step attacking the cup. His offense is great in short bursts when needed but often leaves teammates watching and not reacting. Derrick Rose's offense creates collapsing defense which leads to offensive rebounds.

If he's not gonna take 3s, he's basically clogging the paint for the whole team. He doesn't pass. Doesn't play D. Does he even get to the line?

We might re-sign Rose, though, and I realize it's because Phil might be smarter than any of us realize. Phil's realized that there are only 2 ways he'll get a point guard to agree to come to the Knicks. 1) We draft that sucker, and we make his life a living hell for 8 years, until he's free to leave, or we trade him away and he ends up in the finals. 2) We overpay and re-sign Rose, and pretend that it's Phil's plan all along, rather than the fact that he's pissed off or scard away all the other free agent PGs.

My point with his lack of shooting threes is his awareness that he isn't good at it. It's very rare that you see a player decrease their attempts by nearly 100. I wouldn't say that spacing was terrible either. He was hitting his jumpshots inside the arc pretty consistently. Depending on how quickly he recovers he might be able to work on that 3 point shot and at least shoot a respectable percentage(35%). Phil already said that Derrick Rose is NOT a lead guard. He is aware of it he was complimenting his scoring ability, as well as his desire to return. If Rose is brought back it won't be to play the 1.

Here's how Herring described the DRose deal - PJax had made some nice lower attention grabbing moves in signing RoLo to that deal and trading THJ for a 1st in the grend. He undid both with the DRose deal.

Hated to see these guys go but was fine with the trade because we dumped Failderon and it open up a potential 70 mil in cap space for 2017.

Too bad we blew 40 mil on role players, with 45% invested in Noah.

Good lawd this team is dumb

I think this thread is harsh. Derrick Rose had the best FG% for a non-Center on the Knicks. He was top FT%. 3rd in scoring. He attacked the basket, which is why he was brought in. The reason why he wasn't dishing in the paint is due to the fact, the Knicks like to stand around at the perimeter. Plus driving to the basket is also about getting the opposition in foul trouble.

Keep in mind, Derrick Rose had a trial to deal with, the fall out with his family, and missed all of the Summer camps, work outs and pre-season.

Rose was the FIRST guy to tell Hornacek not to stop calling guys out on defense. Why? Because that's how guys get BETTER. *shakes head*

Will he be a great defender? Absolutely not. Like Phil said, he likes his attitude.

1-year deal for redemption and to be a tutor to the draft pick...I'm ok with that.

Rose isn't a starter in this league anymore, since he's not a point guard and can't defend either backcourt position. He would be an excellent sixth man for an established veteran team, but if the Knicks are serious about rebuilding and changing the culture, they shouldn't be interested in bringing him back, unless it's an extremely friendly deal that would be easily tradeable.

That's because Melo is the king of ISO while Rose excels at scoring in a crowd. :)
