OT: Ex-NFL player Aaron Hernandez commits suicide in prison

Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez, who was serving a life sentence for a 2013 murder and was acquitted in a 2012 double slaying last week, has committed suicide in prison.

Hernandez was discovered hanged in his cell by corrections officers at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley at 3:05 a.m.

Liifesaving techniques were attempted on Hernandez, and he was taken to UMASS Leominster, where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m.

Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population housing unit, officials said.

Hernandez hanged himself using a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window. He also tried to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.

Terrible end to a tragic story, but he saved taxpayers a lot of money. Condolences to his family.

Maybe he was guilty of the two murders he was just acquitted for, might have pushed him over the edge.

I like how the Patriots knew this guy was a no good individual from the jump but drafted him anyway. And I don't mean, oh, he had an issue or two. His tendency towards violence AND gang affiliation were well known. I could even see a team looking past gang ties, because depending on circumstances that could be the natural byproduct of living in a rough, poor neighborhood. But it seemed pretty established, even in college, that his ties were less than casual.

Just got a visit from his little daughter last week. Too much too handle.

Can't phathom being only 27 and doing life with no chance at parole. That little girl broke what supposedly is a hardcore dude.

Don't murder people in cold blood. Play football. See daughter grow up. Literally can't get any simpler than that. His dumb ass got what he deserved whether he punked out of life or someone got him.

espn (outside the lines) just said that aaron hernandez had requested a trade in 2012 and N.E. declined his request. A.H. said that he couldnt be in n.e. anymore and needed a new start somewhere else.

Maybe he knew he needed to get away from some people.

He went away for college too.

Maybe if he was traded it could have saved lives.
