I dont know why this news bothered me so much. The guy just threw everything away. Regardless of his family, IMO he made the right choice. So many free people search for the sense of life, Aaron didnt see any hope his would make sense again.

Feel bad for everybody involved in this situation.

Am I the only one that wouldn't be surprised if it was a prison murder that was made to look like suicide? Dude just got acquitted of the double murder and was just getting ready to appeal his life sentence....also apparently was deeply involved with a prison gang

Maybe I watched too much oz and other shows like it, but seems fishy to hang yourself after something good happens AND maybe something good could happen on the other charge

Yeah, probably just too much tv

Well said. What I don't get is that when a rich CEO or a trust-fund brat commits a crime, nobody's making excuses for them or telling us why we need to have sympathy. But when an entertainer or an athlete commits a crime, there's always people reaching for any excuse they can come up with. Hernandez shouldn't be treated any differently than the "affluenza" kid was. They both threw away a privileged lifestyle because of their own selfishness and poor character.

He has a daughter.

Even while serving a life sentence he could've been there emotionally for his daughter and used his own issues as an example of what NOT to do for her. Growing up fatherless is not ideal. There's plenty of people in prison who turned their life around and remain in contact with their children daily, able to guide them from afar.

It's selfish, plain and simple.

What is he going to do for his daughter? Hes locked up forever. That seems to be the worst case scenario for her. Now she gets to move on and forget him and maybe has a better chance to grow up without issues.

This prick was famous because he could catch a football and was a large person. He also cold blooded murdered people for spilling drinks and "disrespecting" him.

Anyone that would even begin to reason that he's somehow a victim in all of this is an idiot. Don't pretend to be some transcendent being of enlightenment. There is no spiritual element or mystery to this. He was a prick that had everyone kiss his ass a majority of his pathetic life because he was real gud at da footballz--so he felt that he could do whatever he wanted.

Glad he's dead.

Agreed with everything you said except the last part.

You know, nothing about your theory sounds implausible either, even though this was the exact end I was expecting once this stuff started to surface a few years ago. Nothing good or normal happens when PCP is involved.

I'm certainly not a fan of Hernandez but it's sad no matter who it is when someone commits suicide. He was obviously not a good person but you need to think about the family he leaves behind; that's who you need to feel for.

it's not that black and white man.

some would consider you being the selfish one because you don't want to go through the mourning process after a death. but do you really know and understand what is going on in this persons mind? they're obviously feeling some sort of way that is unexplainable to anyone. it's an ongoing battle inside of them and eventually they say enough is enough.

i worked a long time in a hospital around mental health patients. it's sad and hope one day we can solve all mental health illness quick.

I feel you man, but it is that simple if you actually care about those you love.

Any suicidal thought I may have ever had was quickly quelled at the thought of the pain it would cause my family.

I care for them too much to cause them unnecessary pain.

But people who commit suicide are too self absorbed to consider others.

Suicide, in mostly all cases, means you're weak and selfish. I'm sorry.

You're still not taking into account how the suicidal person feels. And ironically, the suicidal person often times feels like too much of a burden to those who love him and not so much a burden to himself. The person feels like he has disappointed his loved ones so badly that even just knowing he is alive, spending his time doing "horrible" things will make them feel very uncomfortable. Thus, the victim starts to feel ashamed of himself. Once you feel ashamed of yourself for a prolonged period of time, it is very difficult to come back.
Of course, there are other cases such as suicide after a breakup. The guys I've met who actually contemplated that were also embarassed and humiliated, however, jealousy also played a huge role. And the thought of someone else having sex with "my" girl who "belonged" to me for so long etc. was a big factor too.

I love how this chart illustrates emotions

I feel no sympathy for him and I am glad that he is no longer wasting tax dollars. Unfortunately, most murderers don't feel guilty enough to do the same to themselves and end up being a drain on the public's finances.

Weird thing was after reading the coverage over the last week or so, I truly thought that he had a solid chance of winning on appeal. There was no smoking gun and very little direct evidence, and the conviction seemed to hinge on his attorneys not being able to answer for the jury "what type of innocent person destroys evidence." Think about it, the connections of Hernandez to the crime scene were shaky at best and the only utterance from the victim was the "NFL" text to his sister.

I guess we'll never know how that would have turned out though.

ALL HAIL wrote:If there are people on this earth who love you, suicide is the ultimate act of selfishness.

Research actually shows that most people who attempt suicide actually view themselves as a burden to others and feel as though people would be better off without them because of their distorted cognitions as a result of severe depression, trauma, other mental illness etc. Somebody who has bipolar disorder, is in a deep depression, and attempts suicide could be the perfect example of this - and almost half of all individuals with this disorder do attempt suicide at some point. In effect, many people who attempt suicide view it as a selfless act because of their cognitive distortions. You can't expect people with severe mental illness to think rationally and be in touch with reality, particularly in terms of interpersonal relationships. One might very well perceive their loved ones as not loving them because of the aforementioned perceived burdensomeness.

All in all, others may perceive it as selfishness, but we can't pretend to know the mindset, cognitive thought processes, and inner-experiences of those who feel suicide is the best option. We just can't. That level of distress is otherworldly.

This isn't saying anything about Hernandez, though. I have no comment on this incident aside from feeling terrible for his daughter.

I didn't say it was. I'm just pointing out that having your husband or father in jail for your entire life is still very hard. You could argue just as hard if not harder.

Ask anyone you know who lost someone in their "prime" years if they would choose never seeing them again but receiving a letter from the one they love a few times a year over them being dead, and the choice shouldn't surprise you.

That's all I'm saying.

If you want to get personal, my father passed away at 53 unexpectedly 8 months ago. My best friend growing up has been in prison for the past 5 years for a drunk driving accident. I don't need to ask anyone...

Everybody has different opinions on this and there is no black and white.

To me this is a non-story, especially for a basketball forum. The guy was a backup TE for a football team for what 2 years? He is better known as a murderer. There are more stories of similar incidents from people who might have been innocent then this POS.

Sometimes I feel I wasted my potential and then I remember Aaron Hernandez and think man he could've had at the very least a super bowl ring and more than one appearance in the Super Bowl. Instead he was making spread with the most delicious jailhouse meats and cheeses. R.I.P Aaron "Tortured Soul" Hernandez and all your victims.

Saw this comment on Clutchfans and it made me chuckle:

"It came down to a tight end."
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

It's probably better for the girl that her father isn't in her life, being he was probably a psychopath.

For those trying to excuse his actions because he "lacked free will" because of some genetic reason then it is good he's gone so he may never reproduce again and pass on that genetic propensity for violence. And by the logic that he "lacked free will" we should keep an eye on his daughter just in case she has that same genetic abnormality. Personally I believe everybody has free will and their choices define them. I also hope his daughter is raised in a loving family and her future is not tainted by her fathers actions
