The real question for Pacers fans and FO: trade PG or keep PG

Post#1 » by walk with me » Fri Apr 21, 2017 1:58 pm

PG obviously a tremendous talent. No denying that but after the past 3 games and his reactions after each, you kind of have to wonder what type of talent he is?

- super star?
- all star?
- cusp all star?

Does he have heart? Is he a LEADER? Can he get your team out of a bind? do you try to build around him or move him for a package of future picks ala Boston-Brooklyn?

What do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure he's walking away after this next season.

Might as well trade him. I don't think he can lead a team to a championship anyways , he's more of a second option on a championship team.
"We're like Tim Duncan and David Robinson," Villanueva said, following the team's morning shootaround at the America West Arena. "But a younger version. I really feel that."

He is a great player and has a tremendous talent indeed, but I don't think Indy is the place he should be for next years. Indiana needs to start rebuilding around Myles Turner, Glen Robinson and etc. Start a new philosofy, bring in a new coach, McMillan is not taking them anywhere. I say they should trade PG for good Draft assets from the '17 and '18 draft and start building around it.

They pretty much have no choice but to trade him unless they can bring in a top level FA.

At least for them there are going to be a bunch this offseason... who knows maybe they somehow get CP3 to sign with them.

Keep him. Then go mid 2000 Lakers route w/ semi-rebuild and find a talent in the draft/FA to play with PG.

He's not a FA until next offseason, and has a player option for 18-19.

The real question for Pacers fans and FO: trade PG or keep PG

Post#10 » by MUpacersSIC » Fri Apr 21, 2017 2:11 pm

I personally think he'd be happy in Boston. Stevens is a great players coach, and they've got a really great surrounding cast along with another all star. I think he'd escalate himself to super star status in that environment. My only question... do we find out all NBA at the awards show on the 26th or before? If it's after the draft than it makes it difficult because he'll be pissed if he makes all NBA and is traded. Would cost him like $80 million or something of the sort.

Think they should trade him for BKN 2017, J. Brown, and Zeller. That's fair value without losing their core. They'd still have the BKN 2018 pick, which is a draft I think may surprise some people (at least at the top). Fire McMillan for sure, he's awful.

I think this shows that Jimmy Butler is more of a superstar then PG.

PG performance and antics shows he is a #2.

Boston will not give Indy anything since PG leaving next summer, plus I think Boston is realizing that they are more than 1 piece away.

I don't see that at all. I'd take PG over Butler any day. Sure I'm bias, but oh well. Haha

Trade him and rebuild around guys who are not cry babes and respect their teammates.
Pacers have tradition, their fans know bball and they will be reborn easily.
As for him, i wish him better brains to his next team and i hope that he'll realize that he's very good but not the best until he proves it.
Lakers had huge players in their uniforms and behaviors like "the last shot is always mine" are accepted only for players that can actually make the last shot.

This is quickly becoming the most played out topic on this site. This is threat 518 that I've read about him leaving/being traded. I can tell you how this poll is going to turn out and save everyone some time.

Pacer Fans: Will be about 65-35 to keep him.
Laker Fans: Want him at all cost
Boston Fans: Want to trade Jordan Mickey and Amir Johnson for PG and think it is fair.
Sixer Fans: Like 2 sixer fans will offer some ridiculous idea of a PG trade.
Rest of the NBA: Will have a differing of opinions on what should be done.

As a Celtics fan I'd give up the Brooklyn pick for PG 13. Edit: I'd give up the Brooklyn pick as long as it isn't the #1 pick.

Markelle Fultz is the only guy I wouldn't trade for PG13.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

On the flip side, everyone thinks they are getting both picks and Jaylen Brown when nobody has ever gotten such a huge haul for a star. People were saying both picks, Brown, Crowder and Smart for Cousins the same day he got dealt for a protected pick and Buddy Hield. If that pick ends up #1, that's a pretty good haul along with Crowder or Smart. Although I'd rather keep both picks and Brown and just develop them..

I voted "other".

The Pacers need to trade him, but not for the reasons you listed. They need to trade him because we are not close to competing right now and by the time we are ready to compete, he'll likely be on his way out of his prime. This team is assembled terribly and to turn the whole roster around would take time that we do not have. I absolutely think PG can be THE GUY on a team that is competing, we just don't have the roster for that right now.

If he's going to leave then trade him while you can. If he's prepared to stay re-tool around him. This Pacers team isn't bad enough for a complete rebuild. If they still had George Hill & Vogel instead of their counterparts they could possibly be up in this series.
