Portland won't have any way to sign any significant free agent for some time to come.

When did we ever sign a big name fa even when we had cap space?

No.... I'd rather move Lemon with a pick and take back no salary than get Crawford. I doubt anybody but the Clippers is even slightly interested in this proposal.

Been there done that with Crawford. If the Knicks want Melo gone, they'll have to eat that contract from the Clippers.

Re: This summer
There's a very VERY short list of players that I wouldn't trade Leonard for. Crawford makes the list. Well done.

One less year on Crawford's deal but I'd pass on this deal.

No F'n way would we trade Leonard and Napier for Crawford. I doubt we have any interest in Melo, but if we do it's certainly is not in our interest to supply the best young talent in a trade that sends Melo to LA. Let LA and NY workout their own swap of undesirables and leave us out.

I would keep it simple with Leonard, just ship him to NJ with our lowest R1 for cap room.

He wasn't that significant when we got him... we gambled and hoped he would become what he did.... good gamble

Re: This summer
Yeah, the whole Mathews signing was a real case of luck. If O remember right he was an undrafted guy who ended up being the highest paid Sophmore in the NBA. We already had B.Roy at the time, Wes was supposed to just be that 6th man energy type off the bench. You can say what you want about him being a team first guy, and unselfish winner, but he sure seems to fall upwards when $$$ is involved...
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

Re: This summer
Since we're throwing some different names out there I wonder if Olshey should at least keep an eye on Chris Boshs situation and be in touch with him.
If he could manage his health issue I could see him being a great fit in the Blazers system. Just thinking outside the box. I think Miami is on the hook for him anyways so maybe they would be willing to do a deal.
They've made it clear they're not keeping him. Am I out of line with this one or is it worth exploring?

I'm really torn on Bosh. On one hand, I think he'd be great if he's even half as good as he once was. On the other hand.... that's so risky and I'd worry if there'd be backlash from some sectors of the league over the Blazers being the team to let a guy with a literal life and death health concern continue to risk his life like that...

Re: This summer
Rather fhan focusing on splashy moves, I'd rather the team focus on a trade up to get targeted
players that the coaching staff wants after the workouts. Get that upgrade at the 3/4 and the
backup 5.

Re: This summer
I would try to trade for Melo, but only for the right price. Leonard, Crabbe and Cleveland 1st (plus future 1st with signed extension). I know everyone will say he won't resign with Portland, but I'm not so sure about that. At this point in his career, he's made his money, and likely wants to win a championship more than any thing. The line-up below, IMO should get you to the WCF:
Dame / CJ / Harkless / Melo / Nurk
Bench: Turner / Aminu / #15 / #20 / Vonleh / Ezeli / Davis
If he did walk, we still get rid of two awful contracts. If we draft well, like GS did when they got Klay, Green and Ezeli... we should be in serious contention two years from now.

Re: This summer
Melo would be 35 at the end of his deal.
Would you want to give him a big contract at that point? He may still be able to score, barring injury. But he may be more of a sub or spot starter like Joe Johnson at 35 years of age is for the Jazz?

35... that is kinda old, but I would still see if Phil Jackson bites. Maybe without the extension part though. Cross that bridge when we get to it. It would be nice to undo those two awful contracts in Leonard and Crabbe.

Asking them to take both Leonard and Crabbe is a little greedy, methinks. If Melo would agree to come here, I think it would have to get done on draft night so Ezeli's (mostly) unguaranteed contract can be the filler with Crabbe or (preferably) Turner and a pick or two. I'd still do that.
