It's one of those seasons. Almost everything that can go wrong is going wrong. Leads mean nothing, when we have them, batting is terrible, and we are riddled with injuries.
It's getting comical.

At least they are losing in style. None of that .500 at the all-star break nonsense.

Sometimes it happens like that, even with more talent than the Jays have. It's bad to watch, but it can also be an opportunity to re-calibrate the program

The leafs got the free pass because they brought in Shanahan, Lamorello, and Babcock. The media had routinely swooned over those guys before they came here. Then they openly stated what they were going to do which led to no false hope... and then fans got wind of Austin Matthews and they were now fully on board with the tank.
I think a segment of fans will never be happy with folding the season but I do think we aren't far off from where the media (shillner aside) are going to be on board with tearing it down.

Have we seen the obligatory 'it's all Gibbons fault!' post yet?
We'd be 17-6, healthy with everyone playing great with a better manager....

I think many (most?) fans who really know baseball understand that the major issue is a lack of talent, exacerbated by key injuries. I don't think Gibby is in any jeopardy. It might get hotter for him if all hands are healthy, say, in June, and the team continues to suck to this extent.

I wouldn't cry foul if this organization was to let go of Gibby and his coaching staff. If we are going to rebuild, might as well do it the right way.

No, it's not too early. We're 11 games below .500, 9 back of two teams atop the AL East, and 6.5 back of the nominal playoff spots. 538, Fangraphs and Baseball Prospectus all have our odds of making the playoffs at or below 10%.
It would be too early for this stuff if we were 11-12 or something, sure, but we're nearly 7 wins off the winning percentage necessary to make the playoffs in most years, with the worst record in baseball...we'd now need to win 15 consecutive just to get back on pace, and we need to play like a 98-win team from here through the end of the season to be in the thick of the Wild Card race. We're now into "technically possible, but exceedingly unlikely" territory, and any week that passes without us gaining back real ground pounds another nail into the coffin.

The season is truly FUBAR. Most of our good players are either injured or performing well below expectations, while the only three guys producing with the bats weren't expected to (Pillar, Smoak, Barney).
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Martin now has his OPS above .700, just 40 points away from his career average.
Bautista continues to look toast, however, with a .520 OPS despite 14 walks in 98 PAs entering today's game. The team can't afford to keep him in the 3-hole any longer. When Donaldson and Tulo come back, he should be hitting no higher than 6th.

Pillar and Smoak: 8 HRs in 184 plate appearances thus far. A HR every 23 PAs.
Rest of the team: 14 HRs in 796 plate appearances. A HR every 56.9 PAs.
They are #1 and #2 on the team in isolated power among players with 50+ PAs. By a mile. Third? Russell Martin, naturally, and Ryan fking Goins is in the top five.

High drama: on the final day of April, we will play for a chance to pick up our only victorious series in April, and our first consecutive games won of the season. And also to accomplish the only thing more bizarre than the Pillar/Smoak Experience: giving me a series win as thread-starter.
