Dubon has been nothing short of fantastic these past few weeks. He is a legit big league prospect. I love seeing the Diaz's and Dubon's rise in the system - makes Villar all the more expendable.

He's now up to 20 stolen bases as well after swiping 2 yesterday in a rare loss as of late. The Thronburg trade is looking better by the passing day.

We have a PTBNL still owed us too but June 5th

Yep. At this point it certainly seems like it is a PTBNL and not cash. Wasn't that the original proposition - one or the other?

Yeah you have to have one or the other in case the player group has massive injuries or something along those lines. Usually what happens is there is a list given of acceptable choices and we then get 6 months to make that decision. Usually in season the PTBNL list is tied to performance based things like making playoffs or all star appearances and so on.

Also a couple of minor transactions we haven't pointed out (that I know of):

We traded CS IF Nick Noonan to the Marlins for cash - they've been hit very hard by injuries and needed a body for their AAA affiliate.

And, apparently, the Brewers also acquired the rights to 18 yo Victor Castaneda who was pitching at the AAA level in Mexico. I believe he was sent to Maryvale.

So, do we know if there will be any ramifications on this list given Thornburg's in-season prolonged injury? I mean, I have to think the original list came from a selection of low A candidates regardless. The trade is just so lopsided in our favor at present.

Well when it intitally came through the prize in the deal was Dubon. Pennington hasnt pitched yet for us and is in XST. Shaw was somewhat of an unknown. Given the going rate of top tier relievers at the time and the initial return I would imagine it still being a decent prospect coming back. But yeah probably in the lower levels of the minors.

I had completely forgotten about Pennington. Wow. That deal just continues to amaze me. Wasn't Pennington considered about as close to a Thornburg-like prospect as you can get? 21 yo at the time. 94-98 mph heat consistently. Starter candidate who may be best served in the bullpen?

Yeah kind of. He's a smaller guy who throws hard but doesnt have the best mechanics. Also has some control issues. Mostly just a FB kind of guy whos still coming back from arm issues. Him Kirby and a couple others are still in XST

Interview w/host Matt Pauley and the Mudcats play-by-play voice Greg Young begins at roughly 55:45 mark here. He claims it is the most talented club top-to-bottom he's covered in his career in the minors. Lots of good information here on the top prospects (10 of the mlb pipeline's top 30 Brewer prospects are in Carolina for those of you who don't know about this stacked squad).

More importantly, Dubon continues to rise. 2 of 4 with 3 rbi. 2 doubles. Another stolen base. This kid is getting me really excited about his future.

Phillips with two bombs and a triple tonight for Colorado Springs. On a side note, how many more starts do you give Burnes at A+ before bumping him to AA? Think he is close to mastering A+ if he hasn't already.

Man, Dillard and Goforth are having horrendous years at Colorado Springs. Yikes. Minor League camp bodies?
