Why would Diallo agree to this?

It's essentially like playing in college for a year. He would have same risk of injury with no financial backing, yet additionally we would give him a contract for where he was selected at this year.

If he stayed in college for a year, he'd be selected much higher spot and get a more lucrative contract.

You can guarantee your position. The reason Diallo wants to go to a lotto team would be so he has a clear path to playing time. That's why he said he won't workout for teams after #20, but worked out with the nets. We can give him playing time. If he really cares about his development, he would take the deal. Then, he can make money next year (at a smaller scale, open himself up for more marketing opportunities because He's homegrown, (Kilpatrick has a shoe deal LOL) and still secure that lotto money next year (the nets arent restricted in how much his rookie contract would be worth). All while being apart of our DLeague team which means he can practice with the main roster. Why wouldn't he take that deal?

No, that's not why. It's because he wants the money.

Yes, they are restricted to how much money they can offer him. It's part of the CBA.

I had more thoughts on it and edited my post but you replied before seeing the final changes. Here's what I said in it's final form

Why would Diallo agree to this?

It's essentially like playing in college for a year. He would have same risk of injury with no financial backing; but it's even worse for him since we would give him the salary number for the draft spot.

Remember, rookie salaries are fixed and scaled according to your draft spot.

The first year salary for a player selected at #22 in the 2016 draft is $1,199,900.
For #10, it's $2,140,500.
For #5, it's $3,227,100.
For #1, it's $4,919,300.

These salaries can only be flexed up or down 20%, so it's not like we can give him the salary of the #1 pick after he played a year in the D-Leaguue.

If he stayed in college for a year, he'd be selected much higher spot and get a more lucrative contract.

Also, if he doesn't have a contract, he can be poached by another team. So you'd be forced to give him a two-way contract. He's not going to (and frankly, shouldn't) jump through all of those loopholes when he can sign with another team that will give him the contract that he wants without conditions.

2nd rd picks have non-guaranteed contracts.

In order to retain draft rights to the prospect, it's stipulated that teams must tender a contract to their 2nd round draftee. That tender is usually the minimum salary and it's non-guaranteed for the years of the contract.

toronto is never going to give up 23 to move carrol though. as underwhelming as he has been the reality still this. he is a hard working rotation player and dumping 100% of his salary still doesnt get them more then the MLE under the cap. and teams dont pay firsts unless they get cap flexibility in the deal.

i think carrol + second could happen

Finally. Per source, Hamidou Diallo has released a statement indicating he is returning to Kentucky. He had an extremely tough decision.
