49ers’ NaVorro Bowman on competition: ‘I won’t be on the sideline’
http://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/49ers-NaVorro-Bowman-on-competition-I-11168319.phpNow is as good of a time as any to state this once again when it comes to Bowman. For a guy that had some scouts and people concerned about some maturity issues he had coming into the league, he SEEMS to have developed and matured at a rate faster or as fast as any defensive player I've seen come into the league since 1998. It's really remarkable. If you hadn't studied him coming into the league I personally could see how someone would think this was always an impressive dude. He still is not the best speaker around but the vibe and impressions he gives off kind of works for him and makes up for not being as eloquent with his words as a lot of the guys who also come off as impressive humans off the field.
I state all of this because many have probably seen my rants at how few guys there are in the league who you genuinely can root for on the field and life and feel good about it. Bowman has become one of those guys to me and I'm even at the point where if at some point something crept up off the field with him in terms of character, a small part of me would now be surprised and even a little disappointed. That's INCREDIBLY rare for me to get there with any players. There aren't THAT many in sports today who I hold in that regard and I have to admit again that I was one of the skeptical ones when it came to his make up.
