From what I read Jacksons workout wasn't that impressive. Still think Lakers go Ball. Phoenix trying to get a workout from Ball but I can't see LaVar letting that happen. If Lonzo hypnotizes McD he may lose his mind being in the last year of his contract. What do you think it would take from the Suns in order to swap picks? Thanks

Still not bad, but if Fultz turns out to be really good, Ainge will be a villain in BOS.

The gamble is fair for the Celtics. They have a good PG already and if the Celtics can draft a player at #3 that's close to or as good as the player being taken #1 while adding more draft picks in the process it has to be a win.

To win championships teams need a top five player and being in a position to draft one of those players is mostly luck. This year looks to be a a very good draft year but not so much for generational talent. So the Celtics add picks for future drafts adding to their chances of getting one of those generational players at a later time. All in all reasonably solid strategy and I'm not one to give the Septics much credit. F the Celtics!

I could see the Celtics still do some things.. but what are the Sixers in a hurry for? Moving around those 2nd round picks? Think this is mostly Boston here.

Yeah.
C's must be after Butler or Griffin or Hayward.
They could end up with 2 of the 3.
And even that won't be enough to get them over the CAVs or GSW.

If the Cs want to fight for 2nd/3rd place instead of rebuilding with top tier talent, I'm all for it.

Great, but I read that as both teams are over-thinking the hell out of this.

It's crazy though... Celtics make it to the ECF AND get the #1 pick in the draft -- That's rare as hell
THEN they trade it -- When's the last time a #1 pick's been traded anyway... Especially with the kind of talent available.

The sixers always have top draft picks but are so enamored with Fultz that they dump assets to jump from 3 to 1?

There's so much going on here that we just don't usually see in drafts... It really has me wondering just how much of it was orchestrated by our camp. Because Magic and Pelinka are the only real new things that have been added to the equation this year.

Fultz: I'll take a steak burrito with extra guacamole.

Ainge: I'll take a #3. To-go, please.

Wow. The Celtics were... bent over. How the hell could Ainge agree to have the Lakers pick protected?

Picks to make a big trade in 2018 is my guess.

i'm guessing Ainge is stocking up enough assets to get two max players if FA fails for them. If you are going to pass up on the first pick, this has to be the option here since you're committing yourself to Isaiah now. But even if you add Butler and someone else, i don't see them beating Cleveland let alone the Warriors.

what is he referring to?

Probably Fultz.

Jackson worked out for the 76ers now they taking Fultz. He bitter--but accurate.

These young guys must really dislike playing for the Celtics. Fultz for example would have played off the bench on that team.

I have a feeling though that Ainge throws the league off by selecting Dennis Smith Jr at 3.

He seems to like these athletic PG type of players. Rozier for example, who had been getting Eric Bledsoe comparisons, was projected to be a second round pick but was selected by Ainge at 16.

Everyone thought Danny Ainge trade against Bryan Colangelo so it must be one sided. However, everyone sees that there are no Shaq or Towns this year. #1 pick is valuable but its not like previous years. Fultz is the most likely #1 and the safest but not that much which separates the #1 with the #3 pick. In fact, the top 5 is pretty much set:

Top Tier:

1. Fultz (floor 4, ceiling 9)
2. Ball (floor 3, ceiling 9)
3. Jackson (floor 3, ceiling 9)
4. Tatum (floor 5, ceiling 8)
5. Fox (floor 3, ceiling 8)

Fultz is one of the safest bets (regards to floor) with higher star potential ceiling. Ball is not a safe bet as one of the riskier picks at #2 with his awkward form but nobody can deny his potential on improving a team especially for the Lakers (low floor and high ceiling). He could be a super-star or a bust. Jackson has quickness and defense which means higher ceiling but struggles with his shot and character issues. Top 3 is almost a pick em so Ainge picks one of these guys and gets another top pick in the future.

Next Tier (but not that far off from the first group):

6. DSJ
7. Isaac
8. Monk

Ainge got fair/good value for #1 pick. Usually a #1 pick would mean over-valuing but 76ers didnt kill themselves for that pick. The 2018 Lakers pick is somewhat protected but only at #1. If it falls 2-5 then the Cs get it, if not then the Celtics didnt want it and pushed for the Sacramento 2019 pick. Thus, Boston got #3 pick (small drop in talent over #1) and a potential top 5 pick in 2018 or Sacramento's unprotected pick in 2019.

2018:

1. Porter
2. Bamba
3. Ayton
4. Doncic
5. Sexton

These guys are what Boston is most likely targetting in 2018. If its outside, then they would prefer 2019 pick from Sacramento. Of course, someone will always drop and others will jump just like Fultz but that is Ainge's gamble. Its a good trade but not spectacular "bent over" trade that most Celtics fans expected.

Sure but 99.8% chance its Fultz. We get to pick the best of the rest: Ball/Jackson/Tatum/Fox or trade down.
